Viktor & Rolf just added a sextet of wedding dresses to its Resort 2014 collection, and we can’t help but fantasize about being the kind of cool bride who gets married in a shirt dress whose tail extends into a long train.
Viktor & Rolf have created one-off wedding dresses before for special clients, and there was a wedding dress included in their H&M collab back in 2006, but this is their first official bridal collection.
“We’ve always loved designing bridal wear because a wedding dress is a garment with a lot of meaning and emotions attached to it,” Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren told Vogue. “The wedding dress is the ultimate clothing icon.”
The line is called Marriage, and all the pieces are created in either white or ivory. There are six dresses, including a strapless mini with a flounced hem, a crisp shirtdress with a train, and a backless crepe jumpsuit. There are bows and tiered ruffles, but even those elements come off as wonderfully modern and un-bridal.
This is the first bridal collection for Viktor & Rolf, but the duo indicated that they’d be playing around with mini collections dedicated to specific types of garments in the future.
“We love playing with iconic garments, such as the white shirt, the little black dress and the trench coat,” the designers said. “We dedicate special capsules to these wardrobe favourites of ours. They provide the perfect frame for a lovely, surreal play on their existing codes, offering a new and fresh outlook.”
