Every time we start to think we’re done with nail art, something pulls us back in. Just as we were ready to commit to solid polish for the next few years, eschewing both polka dots and glitter, Hailee Steinfeld may have outdone all Zooey Deschanel’s cutesy red carpet manicures with the most event-appropriate nail art ever, and we’re just about ready to head over to the salon with an issue of Wonder Woman.
Steinfeld arrived at a joint party at San Diego Comic-Con for the movies Divergent and Ender’s Game this weekend in a graphic Bibhu Mohapatra top and skirt with blue eyeshadow and a hand full of long nails painted with a Lichtenstein-esque comic art motif combining eyes, dots, and a “Pow!” style graphic that says “Petra,” the name of the character she plays in the upcoming Ender’s Game movie. Her thumbs are decorated with a dragon and a salamander, for the armies her character is part of in that movie.
“I mean, I had too …” she Tweeted before the convention with a photo of her recently completed nail masterpiece. She said the set took about three hours to do, but it was worth it.
It takes a lot to draw attention at an event where someone’s likely to be dressed up as a giant robot, and Steinfeld managed to do it with just a manicure. Between the bright colors, the event appropriateness of the style, and the technical proficiency necessary to pull off a look that complicated, we’re impressed.
What do you think of Steinfeld’s comic book manicure?
