About three years ago, the world lost its fucking mind when Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement–and Middleton (with her trademark perfect hair) stepped out in a gorgeous, sapphire kimono-style dress by little known Brazilian brand Issa. Within hours, the dress was sold out online and in-stores; impressive, considering its $600+ pricetag. The dress spawned a million copycat looks (and a million blog posts encouraging copycat looks).
Well, good news for those of you holding out for your own iconic blue engagement dress three long years later! Issa is collaborating with Banana Republic on a capsule collection–because all fashion labels must collaborate on capsule collections forever and ever and ever–and the recently-dropped lookbook reveals this:
It’s a cheaper version of the famous dress, no question. Looks like the big difference here is that tie-front–and while the image is a little ambiguous, the thing itself may actually be a wrap dress.
No matter, though, as the dress’ main appeal is preserved: its extremely flattering shape and equally flattering color. Not sure about that styling (purple tights and open toed sandals?) but this thing is probably sure to sell out as quickly as the original, even after all this time.
The 40-piece collection will be available August 8th. Prices range from $50 for jewelry to $185 for a tote bag.
