In Honor Of Lifetime’s Upcoming House of Versace, Let’s Celebrate Their Ten Biggest Trainwrecks

Gina Gershon

Lifetime has announced that Gina Gershon has been cast as Donatella Versace in Lifetime’s upcoming House of Versace. I personally can’t see Gina Gershon and Donatella Versace in the same sentence without immediately flashing to Showgirls‘ “It’s Ver-sayce” fiasco, and I feel like the universe is somehow giving us Showgirls fans a beautiful gift. From one train wreck to another, Gershon is coming full circle, and I’ll be there to watch.

Indiewire reports that

“House of Versace” will focus on the luxury designer’s rise in the fashion world after her brother’s tragic slaying in 1997. The film is based on Wall Street Journal investigative reporter Deborah Balls book “House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder, and Survival,” which explored Gianni Versace’s murder, Donatella Versace’s drug addiction and the reemergence of the Versace brand.

“House of Versace” premieres October 5th, but in the meantime, let’s unwind after a long week by remembering Lifetime’s most recent biopic fiascos.

Natalee Holloway (2009)

A beautiful blonde girl goes missing in an exotic location, and her mom fights to find her. Also, Joran van der Sloot (bad guy!) watched the movie, which is hilariously macabre.

Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy (2011)

If you told me that Amanda Knox was framed by Lifetime so that they could make a movie about her, I wouldn’t even question it.

Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret (2013)

How happy were the execs at Lifetime the day this story broke? I’m just picturing them ordering a thousand donuts while dancing.

The Anna Nicole Story (2013)

I thought that this would be all of my dreams come unbelievably true, but it ended up being pretty sad. And a nightmare. RIP Anna.

Ring of Fire (2013)

Jewel as June Carter Cash. Jewel as June Carter Cash. Jewel as June Carter Cash. Look, I love Jewel, but this mess had nothing on Walk The Line.

Betty & Coretta (2013)

I wouldn’t call this a trainwreck in the traditional sense, because the subject matter was important, and Lifetime didn’t go crazy with sensationalizing. I just can’t take Lifetime seriously on something as nuanced as exploring the legacy of Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King in the Civil Rights movement. Can you blame me?

Prosecuting Casey Anthony (2013)

Okay, this isn’t really a biopic since it centers around the prosecutor (played by Rob Lowe) in the case against Casey Anthony, but this was some classic Lifetime-style exploitation. Somehow, Lifetime waited five years to roll this one out, instead of starting production the moment an attractive young woman is put on trial for murder.

The Mary Kay Letourneau Story: All-American Girl (2000)

The whole movie paints sex offender/statutory rapist Mary Kay Letourneau as being a victim of misunderstood love. God, in real life those crazy kids ended up together!

This just wins, right?

Donatella Versace is still alive right? Isn’t it a bit… rude to make a biopic about a person who is still alive? Especially when it’s about drug addiction and murder.

Wait, Rob Lowe is only in one of these?

Hey did anyone else notice that in that picture of Gina she’s got the Katie Holmes VJJ thing going on her knee? How do they do that? And why?
