Alexa Chung Has An Obnoxious Hangover Secret

alexa chung more productive hungover

Fashion’s manic pixie dream girl, Alexa Chung, is “collaborating” on a makeup line with Eyeko, an “indie” cosmetics brand that is estimated to have annual sales of $10 million, according to Women’s Wear Daily. She also has a book coming out in September and a contributing editorship at British Vogue, so just go ahead and use that journalism degree to mop up your salty tears. But of all the things that make Alexa Chung very, very lucky, nothing has ever driven us to the fits of envy as the news that apparently being hung over makes the woman more productive.

Hangover-related productivity loss for the rest of us is estimated to cost the economy billions, as much as natural disasters. But for the divine Miss Chung, they just help ideas “fall out of [her] head.”

“Maybe it was the hangover, but my head was loosened up and I came up with at least 50 things,” she said of her meeting with Eyeko founders Max and Nina Leykind.

Coming up with a glut of ideas and letting the experts figure out a way to make sense of them seems to be Chung’s general business model, which admittedly worked pretty well with her Madewell collab.

“I send images and different inspirations to Max and Nina and we go from there. It’s quite free form at the moment,” Chung said. When she says that, we can’t help but imagine getting a dozen photos of a field of wheat and an email that says, “I’m thinking eyeliner.”

“She’ll e-mail us in the middle of the night and say, ‘Hey, what about this, such a cool name for a product,’” said Nina Leykind. “I don’t think it would work if we weren’t on the same wavelength.”

Alexa Chung is very good at what she does, which is looking gorgeous in clothes. Her effortless look is adorable, but mainly noteworthy because she looks gorgeous in it, which would not necessarily apply to most people in the same outfits. As we all know, the “model off-duty” look isn’t much different from the “woman who put on pants to go to Dunkin’ Donuts for coffee” look, except that it’s on a model.

Chung and Eyeko’s revolutionary collab will result in a $45 set of waterproof black eyeliner and waterproof black mascara. It will be in Sephora stores in November, in packaging that will be decorated by Chung, probably with eyes.

There’s also an eye on her book, Chung is quick to point out. Her tome, It, will be about killer clowns will feature a blue eye in the middle of a pink cover and will be on every coffee table you’ll see in Vogue for the next two years. The book’s insides will be “an entertaining mix of photos, style advice and trenchant thoughts about life in general, including behind-the-scenes shots of her modeling career, her views on the bag Mulberry named after her in 2009 and her four British Style awards.”  Gag. Somebody alert the Pulitzer committee, we’re about to hear what Alexa Chung thinks about the Mulberry Alexa bag.
