We can’t tell if Vanessa Hudgens’ stylists were in a fight and not speaking to each other, or if everyone was just drunk last night when they let her appear on the red carpet at the WWE & E! Entertainment’s “SuperStars For Hope” event, which is apparently for charity and makes us feel a little bad about making fun of this look. Except that we have to, because this look is like the video from The Ring; it must be shared or it will eat our brains and we will die.
Hudgens appeared in an opulent black and gold Temperley London dress with polka dot sheer panels, lace, gold embroidery, tulle, and appliqués. This would be a lot of look for Empress Alexandra, and Hudgens is a diminutive High School Musical star.
The length is weird on her, as though it were made for a much taller woman (which we suspect it was) and did everyone forget that it’s August?
Full disclosure: I don’t hate this dress. It’s opulent and crazy and is either too much or just a lot, and if Giovanna Battaglia wore it in November I might love it deeply. But a good look requires that a person look like themselves, and in this Hudgens does not.
But the weirdest thing about this look is that someone thought it was a good idea to pair it with a blond milkmaid braid that is less “Sienna Miller in her heyday” and more “but the girl on Pinterest made this look so easy!”
The whole look is just so poorly put together and ill suited for Hudgens that other than an angry fashion feud, we can’t imagine why her hairdresser would crown her for Coachella and her fashion stylist would dress her for the Met Gala.
Her makeup looks like it always does. While it’s admittedly a little heavy on the lashes, the look is overall unremarkable but fine. In this case, that’s a win.
