Not content with scamming a believer out of large sums of cash, a man claiming to be a Taoist priest tricked an unwilling woman into having sex with him under false pretenses by claiming, of all things, he “saw a demon in her vagina.”
The woman works as an assistant in a feng shui store in Guangzhou, China. One day a man came in pretending to be a Taoist priest and claiming to have supernatural powers, which he demonstrated using John Edwards-style cold-reading techniques. Cold reading is often hugely convincing, especially if a person is already a believer. The woman believed him, because a priest wouldn’t lie.
The so-called priest met with the woman to discuss her romantic troubles, and eventually told her that the object of her affection had put a curse on her, which only he could remove.
The woman, still believing the man was a trustworthy Taoist priest, got a hotel room for the exorcism he promised, which he agreed to do for 20,000 yuan, or about $3,300.
He made her shower and wear lingerie he had selected before the “exorcism” then examined her body closely.
“I see a demon in your vagina,” he told her. He claimed the demon could only be exorcised with his penis, though he specified that it would not actually count as sex because he would be wearing a condom. Taoist priests could not have sex, he told her, thus what he was doing was not sex.
The woman, who had already gone along with much of what he suggested, agreed to the terms, believing him to be a legitimate religious man who knew more about exorcisms than she did.
Upon leaving the exorcism, which she later told police took less than five minutes, the woman became suspicious and confided in the owner of the feng shui shop where she worked.
The two went to the police and the fake exorcist was quickly apprehended. He’s now claiming innocence on the grounds that he’s impotent, a Taoist priest who cannot have sex with women, and that there are things “metaphysics and science cannot explain.” He is very probably going to jail.
Admittedly, the phrase, “I see a demon in your vagina” totally sounds like a joke at first reading, but this really isn’t funny at all. The “I see a demon in your vagina” line is absurd, but the young religious woman in question believed him. He took advantage of her religious beliefs to trick her into sex, and hopefully will be facing serious legal consequences for it.
