Rihanna & 20 Of Pop Culture’s Greatest Mullets Ever

Rihanna debuts new mullet on Instagram

Rihanna debuted a new look on Instagram this week–an immediately polarizing Fashion Mullet that’s also kind of a rattail and kind of a mohawk. We think it suits her–but it doesn’t rank amongst pop culture’s greatest mullets ever.

Ahead, some of the most luxurious, thick, starchy mullets the world has ever seen.

A mullet is not the same thing as a shag. Joan Jett = shag. Billy Ray Cyrus = mullet. Jane Fonda in “Klute” = shag. Uncle Jesse = definitely mullet. (I confess I thought Mel Gibson’s 1980′s hair was totally hot.)

While I agree it’s a stretch in the gallery photo, Joan Jett absolutely had a mullet:

As someone who’s had a shag for 8 years, the difference is important to me.

I had a shag for a long time as a well. There is a very dangerous line between shag and mullet that those with a shag must bravely tread, and occasionally cross when you meet the wrong hairdresser.

      Truth.

Yes, and that is how I ended up with a crew cut.

I’m a little bummed Florence Henderson’s Carol Brady mullet/shag didn’t make the cut. It’s definitely more mullet-y than most the ladies you included.

How could you have forgot Bono’s Mullet?! U2 can have this haircut.

MacQuyver? He of the most famous mullet of all time?
