I’m not ready to go full-on juicehead and drink green smoothies every morning, but I do like adding allegedly skin-beautifying ingredients like cranberries, blueberries, avocado, and pomegranate seeds to pretty much everything I eat. Mostly it’s because those things are delicious, but also because sometimes I like to play at being conscientiously healthful the way little kids sometimes play pretend kitchen.
It’s gotten a lot colder where I live in the last week, and I’m finally able to turn on my oven without thinking about jumping out the window from the heat. So now I find myself thinking of warm, chewy, fresh from the oven cookies, preferably in massive quantities.
Antioxidant- and omega-3-packed foods are in smoothies and popsicles and even cocktails a lot of the time, but it can be harder to find them in baked goods. But they’re still there, and you can find just about anything on the Internet. For example, gluten-free bakers have been doing some glorious stuff with almond flour, which is just almonds ground into a fine powder. And almonds are packed with vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids, which makes them good at protecting and moisturizing skin from the inside.
Admittedly, a giant plate of cookies is not necessarily the most healthful food in the world. But I don’t care because they’re delicious and I’m going to eat them anyway. And if they happen to be studded with cranberries and dark chocolate, well that just makes them even more delicious.
