Red Carpet Rundown: GQ‘s Men Of The Year Awards Must’ve Been Hot Because No One Wore Clothes

Men of the Year Awards Emma Watson Daisy Lowe Jourdan Dunn

Last night, London’s Royal Opera House was host to the GQ Men Of The Year Awards. Actors, singers, comedians, models and random celebrities all turned out for the event’s red carpet, which was filled with tuxes and sexy dresses by the dozens. From Emma Watson to Alexa Chung to Jourdan Dunn, there were gorgeous women in beautiful outfits.

Now, it seems that the city of London was having a terrible heatwave because everybody showed up on the red carpet wearing tube tops and crop tops and massive cutouts, presumably in order to catch the breeze. Alright, fine — I’ll admit many of these styles looked super sexy and weren’t disasters, but there were so many outfits that just reeked of “my stylist says this is how I have to dress for men’s magazines.” You decide for yourself, though.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley picked a tight, white Versace dress and wore it with a simple pair of Louboutin So Kate Python heels. Wearing white after Labor Day is a-okay in the UK, eh? (I couldn’t resist the urge to make that ridiculous sentence come to fruition.)

Jourdan Dunn looked just unreasonably gorgeous in this deep-V Hugo Boss gown. Honestly, I hate the texture of the dress (and how it winds up looking frayed around the edges as a result), but her hair, makeup and simply accessorizing were perfect.

Another deep-cut metallic gown which Suki Waterhouse looks lovely in. I’m not positive how I feel about its silhouette, but just like Dunn’s, the simple hair and makeup offset how dramatic the dress is.

I’m not so sure about Alexa Chung‘s matching metallic top and bottom from Carven, nor the orangey-red she picked for her lips, but I am all about that Chanel Perspex clutch shaped like a bottle of Chanel No. 5 perfume.

Russell Brand: Man in a hurry. And also a great outfit.

Rita Ora‘s penchant for patterns plus cutouts continues with this Etro Fall 2013 micro-beaded dress that reminds me entirely too much of Backgammon board.

Also, I can’t tell if her makeup is creatively awesome or awesomely bad.

While I love Emma Watson‘s style at least 90% of the time, I admittedly hate this Balenciaga Resort 2014 outfit consisting of an ivory silk wrap top, loose-fitting black pants and peep-toe heels. I think the upper portion looks like a boob job bandage paired with the cape from a Legos Halloween costume.

On the bright side, her makeup was exceptionally lovely, as always.

There is no better “Man of the Year” than Stephen Fry, just FYI. Perhaps I am biased because I grew up listening to his voice read me books on tape each night, but still. Dude is rad.

Bright orange + metallic fabric + croc pattern should equal disaster, but Alice Eve pulls it off gorgeously in this Richard Nicoll dress and Christian Loboutin ‘Pigalle’ pumps in a coordinated (but more subdued) shade. The monochromatic makeup was a little much, but it tied the look together just fine.

Douglas Booth‘s deep blue velvet suit is not just a gorgeous shade, it’s an excellent fit. I wish the bowtie had been a bit straighter and I’m not keen on his hair’s styling, but overall, this is a great look for the evening.

LONDON, ENGLAND - SEPTEMBER 03: Victoria Coren and David Mitchell attend the GQ Men of the Year awards at The Royal Opera House on September 3, 2013 in London, England.

Comedian and actor David Mitchell looked snazzy accompanied by his beautiful and entirely-too-cool wife Victoria Coren who wore a form-fitting lace overlay dress and tan slingbacks.

Go home, Daisy Lowe, you’re drunk.

Like, really drunk, apparently. It’s okay — I still love you and this Saint Laurent chiffon gown despite the ridiculously clashing red Louboutins and how much your underwear can be seen. Er, actually, perhaps some fashion tape would’ve been a solid investment. Or, you know, seams.

Now, for the Best Dressed Dude and Worst Dressed awards…
