As you may have already guessed, I am more than a little obsessed with makeup. Every once in a while, though, it doesn’t just entice me — it actually astounds me. In this case, I’m amazed by the transformation for Gina Gershon into Donatella Versace for the upcoming Lifetime original movie, House of Versace.
Sans makeup, the brunette actress looks next-to-nothing like Versace. But when shading, contouring, shaping and more techniques are applied to her face, she is practically identical:
According to the NY Post, makeup artist Kathy Kelso stuffed cotton behind Gershon’s upper lip in order to achieve the distinct pout that Versace is known for, while her nose was reshaped using makeup and advanced techniques to achieve a broader look.
Gershon told the post about the importance of her appearance to the film:
“She goes through an evolution — she physically changes, as we all know, and it was important to be as truthful about that as possible. It’s movie magic — a little tape and glue.”
I would say it’s significantly more than a little tape and glue considering how authentic she looks in that still alone (although I’m curious to see how the makeup “moves” with her as she acts), but I think it makes me all the more excited to see House of Versace. The movie premieres on Lifetime October 5, so stay tuned for my drunken livetweeting, just as I did with the absurdity that was Anna Nicole.
