A few weeks ago, we spent some time researching cool items from uncool placesDress Barn, Talbot’s, Chico’s, Burlington Coat Factory. This led to an office-wide debate about what constitutes an “uncool” brand, which in turn led to a series of office-wide revelations about brands we’re embarrassed to buy. Nearing the top of co-workers’ most beloved/ashamed acquisitions? Jessica Simpson. Especially shoes. We were shocked.

Now, there are a few celebrity fashion brands we wouldn’t call uncool–The Row and Victoria Beckham spring to mind–but very few famous people can just waltz in on a highly specialized industry and produce good work.

…Luckily, they all have giant design teams making the actual decisions for them. Hence, every now and again, an uncool celebrity brand gets it right.

I cannot tell a lie. I wanted blue heels for my “Something Blue” on my wedding day. It was really difficult to get the right color of blue. Not cobalt, not teal, not navy… I ended up with a pair of Carlos Santana sky blue pumps and they were absolutely perfect.

So yea, there’s my Carlos Santana shoe story…

Jessica Simpson shoes are deceptively comfortable, and they’re often crazy inexpensive on Amazon.

These for $25? No regrets: http://www.amazon.com/Jessica-Simpson-Womens-Black-Patent/dp/B005NZN63K

She also has a few styles of basic platform pumps that come in a ton of different colors.
