Abercrombie & Fitch is known for having crazy stringent standards about the appearance of their shop staff and preferring to hire cashiers who look like models. But we always sort of assumed that they were talking about local catalogue models or former ANTM contestants. But it turns out they’re setting their sights a little higher than that, as someone from the company recently asked an honest-to-God supermodel if she wanted a job at an Abercrombie & Fitch store.
“Someone from Abercrombie & Fitch asked me the other day if I wanted a job in one of their stores,” said supermodel Jourdan Dunn.
Jourdan Dunn laughs about it, though.
“I let him down gently,” she said.
Despite having Vogue covers and Burberry and Yves Saint Laurent campaigns, and being one of those rare models who walks for both Christian Dior and Victoria’s Secret, apparently a lot of people still don’t recognize her. Even industry people don’t always know who she is, which seems odd considering just how famous she is.
“I still get approached in the street by agents,” she told the London Evening Standard.
While it’s weird to think that there are modeling agents in the world who do not know Jourdan Dunn on sight, the weirdest thing about this story is that apparently Abercrombie & Fitch has people out there trying to “discover” shockingly attractive people for the glamorous job of folding and cuffing jeans. Maybe instead of trying to get women who look like supermodels (because they are supermodels) to work as cashiers, they should just hire the people applying for jobs as cashiers.
