Unhappy with his daughter’s short shorts, Utah father Scott Mackintosh took an unconventional approach to telling her to cover up by showing some underbutt of his own. When his 19-year-old daughter, Myley, refused to change out of what her mother referred to “slutty” shorts before a family outing, Mackintosh hacked up a pair of his own jeans. His plan? To prove a point about slutting it up in hot pants, and to shame Myley into covering up.
As he told The Today Show:
“Instead of turning her response and disrespectful attitude into a major battle, I decided to make a ‘small’ statement on how her short-shorts maybe aren’t as ‘cute’ as she thinks! I was absolutely going for shock value and embarrassment.”
While this is all funny and hilarious and oh my gosh look at that dad in hot pants, it’s also completely counterproductive. Instead of intentionally humiliating and shaming your daughter, how about you have a conversation? If you have a problem with how your daughter is dressed, sit her the hell down and talk about it.
Mackintosh told the crew over at Today that Myley didn’t weep with joy over his excellent parenting, but said that his daughter is now “aware of [his] feelings” about her no good, slutty slut clothes. You know another way to make her aware of your feelings? Use your words to negotiate what you’re both comfortable with as long as she’s living under your roof, but keep in mind that she’s 19 and her body is hers, not yours.
