Barbie has rocked a variety of designer looks in her day. As a child, I remember gazing upon a Bob Mackie Barbie in a store and fantasizing about living in the magical fairy land where my mother would buy me a $150 Barbie doll. Since then, she’s teamed up with countless designers who have all put their unique spin on her, but nobody’s ever made Barbie look quite so much the total sexpot as Hervé Léger just did.
The Hervé Léger by Max Azria Barbie is of course wearing a bandage dress. Where many of us just rent bandage dresses from Rent the Runway on the rare occasions when we need to look all sexified and cute, Barbie actually owns two. The $150 doll comes with a raspberry bandage dress and an interesting black one with a printed white dripping effect over the shoulders. According to the press release:
Barbie’s miniature dresses will be constructed out of authentic Hervé Léger by Max Azria bandages and yarns and will be manufactured at the same factory that produces the full designer collection.
She also has a leather cage corset belt, a black and gold clutch, a black studded clutch, open-toed booties, and the most major pair of sci-fi heroine gladiator boots I’ve ever seen.
In an unusual spin for a Barbie designer collaboration, there will also be full-sized versions of her dresses and accessories available for real people to wear. The full collab goes on sale in October. The doll and real-life clothes will be available at Neiman Marcus and at Hervé Léger boutiques. The doll will also be available at BarbieCollectors.com.
