You know that stereotype of women taking infinitely longer than men? The image of a female simply curling her hair over and over like a heatspray-soaked Sisyphus as her male partner watches from afar, hungry and lonely and wondering why his girlfriend can’t just stop being selfish because he’s been ready to go for 4 hours! Well, apparently there’s proof of this stereotype…sort of.
HuffPost Style and YouGov did a survey to determine just how long it takes women and men to get ready in the morning as well as when going out at night. The results: about half of men and women take between 10 and 30 minutes to get ready in the morning, while about a quarter of each take over 30 minutes.
When it came to preparing for a night out, however, the numbers differed much more:
58 percent of men said they take 10-30 minutes to get ready, while 42 percent of women took 10-30 minutes… and another 42 percent took over 30 minutes to gussy up. Only 20 percent of men said they take 30+ minutes getting prettified.
In fact, 16 percent of men took less than 10 minutes to get ready for a big night out. Only 5 percent of women were so low-maintenance.
Okay, here’s the thing about women taking longer to get ready: there are reasons. Lots of reasons. Here are but a few, including why I never take this green ribbon off my neck…
