Guess Which Pop Icons Can’t Stand Miley Cyrus

Apparently Miley Cyrus is a hot topic of conversation among music icons Elton John, Cher, and Pink, who offered their opinions on the controversy-loving, newly single musician’s talent, performance style, and impending breakdown.

John came out guns blazing, predicting Miley inevitable downward spiral and public breakdown:

“I look at Miley Cyrus and I see a meltdown waiting to happen. And she’s so young! But she’s got two records in the top 20, so who is going to stop her?”

Nobody will stop her, because she can’t be tamed. Which is a joke that has appeared in almost 100% of Miley Cyrus-related articles written by me.

Pink got in on the action with this (clearly prompted) statement:

“Am I into it? No, I think it’s tacky. She’s really freaking talented, she’s beautiful, she can sing her ass off and to go up there and do that? She’s cheating herself and she’s cheating the rest of us. People can like it if they want. I’m not going to buy it. She can do better. I’ve seen her do better.”

Cyrus is a talented singer (watch this video of her covering “Jolene”) but not a particularly gifted performer. Cher reiterated that point, and added that her criticism has nothing to do with Miley’s slutty slut costume choices:

“I don’t give a s**t if she comes out naked. Just be better, do better. Maybe she’s thrilled and delighted – everyone’s talking about it, and so, that’s almost as good as it being great, you know. Especially kind of in this day and age. It doesn’t make any difference if you’re good. It just makes a difference if people are talking about it.”

These are really great points, Cher and Pink. Apparently, cramming as much shock value into performances isn’t a winning formula, unless of course, your goal is not to be a good performer but to be a highly visible celebrity who people can’t get enough of. And no matter how harshly her VMA performance was criticized, it’s still a relevant conversation, weeks later. Touché, Miley.

I actually enjoy Pink, and Cher can do no wrong in my eyes. I like that they called her out on being shocking instead of showcasing the talent she has. It is kind of disappointing!

I agree with you and them!

Holy balls, that Jolene cover was amazing. Why doesn’t she sing like that, instead of crappy poppy nonsense?
