I was so sad a few weeks ago when Linda Ronstadt opened up about being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and how she now works with immigrant kids teaching them about music and art. For those of you who have never stopped to marvel at how truly amazing Linda was (and is!) here is your musical reminder of the day:
Allure has an amazing interview with Linda and big props to them for recognizing that once upon a time she was a huge style icon and known for being one of the most beautiful musicians of all time:
What are your most memorable looks? “For years, I lived in three Betsey Johnson dresses. We were always on the road, so I couldn’t send them to the dry cleaners. I would wash those dresses in the sink, and it took me a very long time to realize that they were shrinking and shrinking. I’d wind up on stage in these tiny, really short dresses. But I was so unaware of style. I carried my dresses wadded up in my purse when I got on an airplane in case the airline lost my luggage. I never had curves. I was built like a stuffed animal, but I was small. So for me to wear something, I only had to ask the question, ‘Does this make me look like a panda?’”
The interviewer also asks her about her signature accessory, which was a flower tucked into her hair:
Where did you get the idea to put a flower in your hair? ”Oh, the flower. When I look at those pictures, I think, Get rid of that flower, you stupid idiot! People used to send flowers backstage, and you would basically just use what was on hand. But if I went back in time that would be the thing that I would let go.”
In another recent interview with The Washington Post Linda spoke about her favorite hobby which she can no longer do, and this is so sad!
It’s not just the singing that she misses. She has always been a big knitter and loved making sweaters. Her ability to hold the knitting needles is gone, too. “It is a blow,” she said quietly in the car.
That is just so heartbreaking that she can not only no longer sing, but she can no longer knit.
She is still so gorgeous. You can just see how much soul this woman has in her eyes. Her eyes are ridic gorgeous. She has always been such a monumental talent and so many of us grew up with our moms loving her.
Linda has a new book entitled Simple Dreams out now. I’ll be over here being all sad and singing her cover of Just One Look.
