Crowdsourcing: Help Me Choose A Rehearsal Dinner Outfit!

Carrie's rehearsal dinner dress choices

One of my very best friends is getting married in a week! And I’m one of her bridesmaids. While the wedding apparel is obviously on lock (mint green dresses, nude wedge heels), I’m feeling a little puzzled about what to wear to the rehearsal dinner.

I want to look good in a way that says “I’m part of the exclusive harem chosen to wear coordinated dresses and hold flowers while we usher this late-twenties woman into wedded bliss,” but not in an overly try-hard way. And duh, I don’t want to overshadow the bride! The rehearsal dinner is at a fairly casual location (a local brewery), so I want to strike the right balance between fancy, fun, and damn-I-wanna-look-stylish-in-the-inevitable-Instagram-photos.

Help me decide which of these five dresses I should wear to get drunk and toast my friend and her future husband’s eternal love! All photos feature my makeup-less face and unwashed hair, plus the Frye boots or nude wedges that will be my designated footwear.

Option 1: Red Lace

This dress from last year at Urban Outfitters (remember, it came in like every color?) is solidly pretty and feminine.

Option 2: Paisley Print

You can’t really see it here, but something about this dress has a very medieval vibe. Like, if it touched the floor, I would be singing “The Lusty Month Of May” and pretending I was in Camelot. I think I’d style this with a high bun, big earrings, and mauve lipstick.

Option 3: Black-And-White Stripe

Admittedly underwhelming in photos, but I love the full skirt on this black-and-white dress. Maybe with red lips and a little cat eye?

Option 4: Red Floral Print

Another one from Urban Outfitters. I like that the blouse-y top on this one will keep me from busting out and feeling bloat-y if I drink too much beer at the dinner.

Option 5: Blue Lace Print

A little bit of a vintage vibe. This is super comfy! I’d wear it with dark pink lipstick and maybe a hot pink statement necklace.

Ok, so which of these dresses should I wear?

LOVE the paisley print dress but I think it would look a little chicer with pumps or some type of heel rather than boots.

Exactly. Definitely the paisley print with the nude pumps. Classy AND cool.

    1 or 4, I think.

YOU HAVE SO MANY BEAUTIFUL DRESSES! I like 1 and 3.

  • Samantha_Escobar

Either the third or last one, IMO!

Thanks, everyone! Leaning towards the paisley, but interested to see how the results of the poll pan out, too.

PAISLEY! Did you get it at H&M? I almost bought the paisley harem pants that matched it but didn’t… still kick myself for that.

I got it at a consignment shop about a year ago, but it is from H&M!

Where did you get the paisley dress? I’ve been so obsessed with paisley lately. It’s ridiculous.

Are you suuuure that black and white isn’t really blue and white?

  • ChiaPetChang

I voted Red Lace but I completely understand why the white stripes one is leading the poll. You look the best in the Red Lace dress but like you said you don’t want to upstage the bride so a dress you still look good in but not as eye catching is the black and blue stripes one.

All very cute, but dresses 2-5 seem too “daytime.” Although as other commenters noted the boots really cazh it up so maybe if you paired the others (except 4) with pumps they could work for night too?

Red lace. With a skinny tan belt and some very low-key makeup. Cute, stylish, but not upstagey.
