Actually, not too long ago she was the shiz.
And she is the shiz, because she is an excellent actor and a beauty and her badassery extends to getting arrested for being an enviormental activist and she pumps well water and has a solar powered home. But what she also has is autism, and the actress has spoken to People mag about how this has affected her career as an actress:
Hannah was diagnosed at a time when the disorder was not widely understood and doctors recommended she be medicated and institutionalized. Isolated from her peers, she found solace in old movies and her fondness for acting begun. The way she saw it, movies were an escape from the real world. At 17, she moved to L.A.
But being a towering blonde beauty was not a blessing for her, as she refused to do talk shows or attend her own movie premieres. ”Not because I was above it,” she tells People, “but because I was terrified.”
It’s so powerful when famous people are open and honest about how their conditions affect their work and the choices they make. I hope Hannah continues speaking out about this because the more that famous people are open about things like autism, the less of a stigma they have to everyone else. The sad part about all of this is at age 52 she says she is not being offered the greatest roles in the world, and that has a lot more to do with ageism in Hollywood than her talent. Maybe Tarantino can stick Elle Driver in another movie or something.
