Happy Friday! If you’re like me, I like to take weekend time to unwind with a whole lot of sitting around and listening to a cool playlist. Well, one song I just can’t get out of my head lately is “Royals” by Lorde. When I say lately, I mean for the last couple of months.
Not only does this new Vevo Lift video have “Royals” play through as its background track, but it also features Lorde herself talking about who and what influences her as a musician. If you’re like me and your main musical influence begins and ends with Backstreet Boys, prepare to feel kind of uncultured. As she talks about the old records and literature she loves, she really does seem like the cool, artsy teenager I always wanted to be – yet totally grounded the entire time. That’s not an easy feat.
And can we just talk about her style here for a second? With that long floral dress and the platform boots, her look here kind of reminds me of Topanga Lawrence meets Daria – and know that I mean that in a 100% positive way. And non-style related, I think it’s pretty cool that she shamelessly identifies herself as a feminist.
So in conclusion, if it’s been a while since you listened to “Royals,” may I suggest you watch the video above! You get the all the catchiness of the single, plus Lorde’s discussion of her musical influences may just inspire you to expand your own artistic taste. Seriously, note to self: it’s not too late to add non-90s music to playlists.
