For the magazine’s sixth anniversary in October 2013, they put Pinto on the cover looking the opposite of the way we’re used to seeing her. Normally Pinto stuns in bright-colored couture and her amazing, giant smile. But this time she’s downright gothy in heavy black eye makeup, nude lips, and big, disheveled hair. She even looks angry, and we didn’t know Frieda Pinto in real life could look anything besides sunny and warm, but here she looks like she’s hung the fuck over and we just woke her up with a loud noise.
The look is out of character, but she’s still gorgeous in a black satin bra and high-waisted hot pants under a boucle jacket belted around the waist. She has enough giant, heavy-looking bracelets on her left arm to kill a man with an errant wave.
Inside, she poses with cats for a Black Magic-theme editorial with giant earrings and one lone shoe. She looks great, but this is seriously awkward. We can practically hear the photographer say, “We’ve got nothing. Do something weird so we can call it arty and go home.” The cat seems into it, though.
We love Pinto’s normal look, especially when she glams it up with a dark lip and shiny, shiny hair, but it’s always nice to see someone shake it up a bit in the style department. What do you think of Pinto’s gothy turn for Vogue?
