As much as I like food and think this yellow and shiny purple “jelly” colorway looks pretty cool, I think having food-themed athletic gear might be a bad idea, because now all I can think of is how much I want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
I didn’t want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich 20 minutes ago, but now the sandwich has taken over my brain. If I were to wear these on the treadmill, I do not think I would get very far into my workout mix before I decided to get off and run myself to the nearest source of peanut butter and jelly.
That does not appear to be a problem for NBA star Kevin Durant, who created this pair of peanut butter and jelly shoes as part of a collaboration with Nike. Durant said he was inspired by his favorite food, which he evidently wanted to wear on his feet.
“Coming back from kindergarten, first [and] second grade, my aunt Pearl would always make me peanut butter and jelly sandwiches,” he said. “It was the food I ate all the time… [so] I wanted to bring that out within this shoe.”
We do love the gold color, and the way the sparkly purple swoosh on the basketball shoes’ toes is textured to look like jelly. Is it grape jelly, or raspberry? Either way it looks delicious.
The limited-edition shoes go on sale today at Nike.com for $130. The peanut butter and jelly-inspired gold and raspberry colorway also made it onto a pair of $18 basketball socks.
