This Kate Middleton Cake Also Has Shinier Hair Than You

Old-timey royals were sculpted in marble; today we use buttercream. And then we eat them, because that’s hilarious.

British cake baker Lara Clarke decided to celebrate Kate Middleton’s pregnancy by carving her out of fondant, wearing her famous blue Reiss engagement dress.

“When Kate Middleton announced her pregnancy I created a white chocolate topper of the Duchess in celebration,” Clarke said of her Kate Middleton cake, which the Daily Mail has nicknamed Cake Middleton.

“I wanted to show that I could make anybody out of chocolate, and she’s so pretty it was a lovely challenge,” Clarke said.

Most impressive is that the 27-year-old Clarke is a self-taught baker who has only been baking for two years.

“I taught myself to bake cakes from YouTube and TV shows,” she said. “Once I started I just couldn’t stop.”

This is not the first time the Duchess of Cambridge has been rendered in cake form. Before Prince George was born, a Houston-based cake designer decided to honor the royal couple by building them an edible, life-size model of Middleton and the baby. The spooky, misshapen, tiara-wearing zombie bride looked like something out of John Waters’ nightmares. It’s one of the creepiest things we’ve ever seen, and we’re counting the horrible bot-fly cupcake that ruined cream fillings forever in that list.

Clarke’s Cake Middleton sculpture benefits from the comparison, because it has Middleton’s shiny hair and is at least recognizable and not likely to strike horror into the hearts of children.

This will probably not be the last time Princess Shinylocks appears as a cake, because making cake-people is just a thing we do now.
