This Female-Friendly Porn Seems Pretty Similar To Regular Porn

I know what you’re thinking: how come it’s so hard for an urbane bachelorette to find a sophisticated porn magazine? To read in a silk bathrobe by a fire? While smoking Lucky Strikes? Pour yourself a glass of scotch and kick back, because the dream of the 1950s Playboy is alive in Adult.

Sarah Nicole Prickett, founding editor, is working to create a classy erotic publication that will interest the ladies. “I want a magazine that is for everybody but feels like it was made by a woman,” Prickett tells nymag.com.

But is there a demand among women for porn? Prickett believes adamantly that there is. “It’s not that I think porn for women is going to be, like, softer or gentler than it is for men,” she says. However, about the upcoming release of Adult’s debut issue, she says, “I’m just going to be really honest with you—if you look at the photos in the first magazine, there’s nothing shocking. There’s nothing really that you haven’t seen before.”

Then what separates Adult from other skin mags? Are most of the models men? Not yet, but Prickett intends to move in that direction. “I fought to have more men in the issue, and I sort of lost the first round,” she says. “We’ve all sort of internalized this idea that the female body is just intrinsically more attractive. And when there was a man in the photo, it didn’t totally work.” Okay, so are they people of color, fat people, nonbinary people, disabled people? No, but Prickett says they plan to stop using modeling agencies in the future, because “their idea of size diversity is, like, here is size-six white girl.”

I’ll admit, this new porn sounds an awful lot like old porn. Also, I can’t help but think of a 30 Rock quote, in which an executive claims something like Adult will never sell, on the basis that “women hate porn almost as much as men hate going to outlet malls.” But who knows? Maybe the world needs Adult. You can get a copy on Amazon and decide for yourself.

I dont understand this at all… Woman use the internet we know how to get free porn just like men.

I feel like if you wanted to make a hot magazine for woman just gather all the fantastic fan fiction writers and create a literary magazine filled with smut and corresponding pictures.

It’ll be interesting to see if this succeeds. However, I am an adult star and have female fans, who are interested in seeing what is already out there.

Ummm….women don’t hate porn. One study found that 1/3 of all porn is consumed by women. But I think a lot of women wish porn wasn’t so dumb. And I think a lot of erotic fiction that women like should probably be acknowledged as porn for women. Women on the whole seem to like narrative, back story, character development, emotional content, and sexy, sexy, sexy sex.
