Over the weekend Angelina Jolie received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, but that’s not the real story. Nope, the real story is her son Maddox, and how damn old he’s getting. Well that and how adorable he and his
step-dad Brad Pitt looked in their matching suits from Saint Laurent.
Pitt and Maddox were on hand at the Governor’s Awards this Saturday while Jolie received the award to honor her well-publicized humanitarian efforts around the globe. After received the award, Jolie thanked her partner, saying”
“My love. Your support and your guidance make everything I do possible.”
She went on, in typical (and probably embarrassing to Maddox) Jolie fashion to thank her son:
“I’m not going to cry, I promise,” Jolie said to Maddox from the stage. “I’m not going to embarrass you. You and your brothers and sisters are my happiness and there is no greater honor in this world than being your mom.”
Jolie went on to credit her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, for her efforts, saying:
“I will do as my mother asked and I will do the best I can with this life to be of use,” a teary-eyed Jolie said. “And to stand here today means I did as she asked and if she were alive she’d be very proud, so thank you.”
Excuse me while I get rid of these darn onion-cutting ninjas that are making me tear up…
Brad and Maddox weren’t the only ones there to honor Jolie, however. Before she took the stage, actress Gene Rowland and my personal hero (because I am a mega-geek) George Lucas both got up to talk about Jolie’s various philanthropic endeavors, as well as some of her most recent co-stars.
In case you’re wondering (because I was) the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award is given to “individuals in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry.” Yeah, I think Angelina Jolie was eligible!
