‘Regular Women’ Lingerie Campaign: Rolls, Scars & Cellulite Offer A Beautiful Change (NSFW)

Remember Curvy Girl Lingerie, the plus-size lingerie store attempting to get a Super Bowl commercial? Well, it’s back, and with even more wonderful change. After a customer requested that there be non-professional models shown in the lingerie ads for Curvy Girl, the owner, Chrystal Bougon, decided to make it her mission to celebrate non-models feeling good about themselves in beautiful lingerie–something that is rarely, if ever, shown in magazines, ad campaigns or television commercials.

In a blog post on Curvy Girl’s site, Bougon notes that the drive comes from a desire to see all types of bodies.

My customer’s (we will call her Ms. K)  goal was to show “regular” people what a “regular” woman looks like in lingerie. She wanted to connect with the “regular” people out there in the internet world and show them that for most of us Curvies, we will have rolls, bumps, lumps, scars, stretch marks, surgery scars, breasts that are natural and that have breast fed our babies. And we can still be STUNNING and BEAUTIFUL.

No PHOTOSHOP. No AIRBRUSHING. No SPRAY ON TAN.

I’m admittedly not a big fan of the “regular woman” portion of this idea, as I don’t think being tall and thin makes you an irregular woman, but I do think the intentions are overwhelmingly positive.

While there are (thank goodness) more plus-size models gaining huge popularity these days, what with the incredible Robyn Lawley effect and all, those women are still models. They still have specific proportions, tall frames, conventionally attractive features, and they’re still edited in post-production. So, even if those models are more like some of us than many of the women who walk in NYFW, they’re still professionally hot for a living, and that’s not quite as relatable as seeing somebody in the product you’re hoping to buy who has the same cellulite, stretch marks and hip rolls that you (i.e. I) do.

So, women started flooding Curvy Girl’s Facebook with submissions. The results were, as you might expect, fantastic. Here are just a few of the gorgeous, snazzy ladies who did so:

Here’s the part of the post wherein I should probably put a picture of myself in lingerie, but I am terrible at taking selfies that aren’t just of my makeup. So, y’know, just pretend you can see a lady with a bunch of tattoos and some stretch marks underneath this sentence.

ME TOO. So much. Except I’m sure there will be lots of douchebags who freak out about it, but regardless, it will be awesome.

All the better for us to write posts about how douchebaggy they are.

“Irregular” women aren’t tall and thin, Irregular women are airbrushed and photoshopped to have necks too long or limbs too short or torsos the extend strangely, into jeans with no creases. That’s what this is about. It’s not a fat vs thin thing, it’s a “customers deserve to see women who look like them in the clothing that they buy”.

I bet you 100% if victoria secret ran a campaign like this, thinner women would embrace it too because even they feel depressed about not looking like Chanel Iman or Adriana Lima. These airbrushed images effect woman of all sizes.
