Once winter comes around, I start flailing wildly to find the best lip balm, scrub, or other treatment to combat the inevitable flakey, dry lips that plague me. Even in the most humid months, I tend towards overall dryness, and so I’ve become kind of an expert on lip treatments.
It’s no secret that I love wearing bold lipstick, but that never, ever works well over flakey lips. In fact, my addiction to lipstick is probably part of the problem, because I rarely find a highly pigmented lipstick that doesn’t dry out my lips at least a little. So in order to keep my mouth looking healthy and not like Saltine, I condition with thick formulas at night, exfoliate a few times a week, and carry a few lip balms (I change them depending on the lipstick I’m wearing) at all times.
I’ve tried every imaginable treatment on the market in the hopes of getting a mouth that doesn’t crack or bleed every time I go outside. Unfortunately, it looks like there isn’t one single product that gets the job done, so I tend to go with a lip scrub/lip balm combo deal. I usually make my own mix of coconut oil and brown sugar like a big hippie, but I’ve included a few good options that you can buy if you’re not in the DIY mood.
