Red Carpet: Katy Perry Looks Gorgeous In A Renaissance Faire Costume

The Ninth Annual UNICEF Snowflake Ball - Arrivals

Katy Perry went to the Ninth Annual UNICEF Snowflake Ball and wore a gorgeous, wine-red Naeem Khan halter gown with an amazing full-length cape/shawl embellished in gold. Seriously, just look at it. Beautiful.

This totally fits in with the 90s thing that’s going on in fashion right now (which Katy has fully embraced), what with the short halter neck and the velvet fabric. It’s also just a little bit Ren Faire, don’t you think? Like, the red carpet arrivals portion of the most glamourous Ren Faire around. There’s also a palpable Indian vibe, which makes sense since Katy is known to dig the subcontinent and its stylings—she married Russell Brand there in 2010.

Katy’s since moved on to a relationship with John Mayer, but luckily I like her UNICEF Snowflake Ball outfit a lot better than what she wore in a recent photo shoot with her boyfriend. That was 90s done corny, this is 90s done classy.

I think the styling here is also dead on. Those Veronica Lake waves with the subtle jewelry, the dark lipstick, dark nails and smoky rose eyeshadow are  just so pretty for a wintry red carpet event. It helps that Katy looks radiantly happy, too.

Also, can I just say that I really really want that cape? I have, of course, absolutely nowhere to wear a floor-length cape that’s made of either gold lace or embellished with gold embroidery (I can’t quite tell which), but it’s so sumptuous and glamorous, like what I imagine a medieval queen would wear to a Christmas feast. I could totally get away with wearing something like that to holiday parties, don’t you think? I feel like I’d have to spend an inordinate time yelling at fellow partygoers to WATCH THE CAPE but it would be totally worth it to feel like a Christmas Queen Guinevere.

yeah, I’m kind of jealous of this ensemble.

If everything else fails, you can wear the cape right out from the shower while you apply your gorgeous makeup or simple night eye cream.
