Award-Winning Artist Paints Ridiculous Portrait Of Pregnant Kate Middleton–Topless

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - NOVEMBER 28: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, patron of SportsAid charity, meets young athletes at the SportsBall, the charity's annual gala dinner at Victoria Embankment Gardens on November 28, 2013 in London, England. (Photo by Lefteris Pitarakis - WPA Pool/Getty Images)

Another day, another weird thing people are doing in the name or image of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. After yet another “Kate likes her own closet entirely too much” scandals, wherein most outlets either critique her or deem her oh-so-relatable simply because she wore a $3K dress three separate times (one for each thousand!), the Duchess is also the subject of another story. One involving her boobs.

A 25-year-old artist named Nick Lord painted Kate in a rather odd manner: pregnant and posing in her underwear on a bed. I’m not entirely certain what’s going on with her bottoms in the image–is she wearing white sweatpants?

According to DM, Lord is an award-winning painter, having won the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year for his (really wonderful) portrait of Iraq war veteran Lance Corporal Johnson Beharry. That piece will be hung at the National Portrait Gallery in London. He painted Beharry in clothing, though, so that piece presumably did not get nearly as much attention as his decision to put the Duchess in just a bra on a fancy bed.

Guys, listen: I don’t pretend to get art. I realize that, in itself, sounds cliche, but it’s the truth. I went to a museum a few weeks ago with my partner and all I wanted to stare at and discuss were the books; the second painted stuff and the like came into our view, I had nothing to say. So, perhaps I am missing the point of this image entirely (or is there ~*no point??*~), but all I see is a painting with nicer hair than my own doing the pose I thought exuded “sexy adult” confidence back when I was age 12. Maybe I just don’t get it (or is there ~*nothing to get??*~), so I’ll leave it up to you guys: masterpiece or–I don’t know, something else.

I’m an artist and I can tell you that there is nothing to get. The stories behind the art are generally bs and you can interpret meaning many thousands of ways but in reality this guy is just a weirdo and kinda perverted. The point is it’s supposed to be shocking and blasphemous because no one paints royalty like that and shock value is what’s important in the art world nowadays and I find it complete and utter tripe.
