10 Of The Worst Self-Indulgent Quotes From Celebrities In 2013

Gwyneth Paltrow Quotes2013 was an odd year, full of many truly bizarre interviews and celebrity profiles. A fashion magazine profile can be a wonderful thing, and here at The Gloss we read a lot of them. During this year, a lot of the things fashion people said stuck out as particularly noteworthy, mainly for their utter cluelessness and self-indulgence. As 2013 winds to a close, let’s look back on some of the most entitled, bizarre, and out of touch things famous people have said over the past year.

Paris Hilton

“There’s much more to life than all of these possessions and everything. And if you want those things, you’re going to have to work yourself, just like I did.”

Miley Cyrus

“I would say everyone has to start from the bottom, to get where they want to go and work on things they don’t really care about doing.

“So I had to do that for five years. I had to work on something that wasn’t really a passion for me just because I wanted to be able to get here, so when I was older I’d be able to just do what I want and not have to work for money.”

Megan Fox

“I don’t think people understand. They all think we should shut the fuck up and stop complaining because you live in a big house or you drive a Bentley. So your life must be great.

What people don’t realize is that fame, whatever your worst experience in high school, when you were being bullied by those 10 kids in high school, fame is that, but on a global scale, where you’re being bullied by millions of people constantly.”

Kanye West

“I’m totally weird. I’m totally honest and I’m totally inappropriate sometimes. For me to say I wasn’t a genius, I would just be lying to you and to myself.”

This one is already being printed on T-shirts.

Gwyneth Paltrow

There are always so many from Gwyneth. From “I would rather die than let my kid eat Cup-A-Soup” to describing her design credentials as “I think of myself as a woman who is a lover of beautiful things.” She always gives us a few great ones. This year, our pick goes to her insights about how dinner parties are great, but only in Europe because Americans are the worst:

“We have great dinner parties at which everyone sits around talking about politics, history, art and literature – all this peppered with really funny jokes.

“But back in America, I was at a party and a girl looked at me and said, ‘Oh, my god! Are those Juicy jeans you’re wearing?’ and I thought, ‘I can’t stay here. I have to get back to Europe.’”

“I’m very aware that when my friends and I sit around over dinner these days, the conversation invariably turns to how crass the world has become. Tweeting? It’s one of the silliest things ever.

He probably goes to Gwyneth’s fancypants European dinner parties.

Karl Lagerfeld

“I never said that [Adele] was fat. I said that she was a little roundish; a little roundish is not fat. But for such a beautiful girl–but after that she lost eight kilos [17.6 pounds] so I think the message was not that bad.”

Victoria Beckham

“We don’t want anyone to know I eat,” she said. “Why ruin that?”

W Writer Sandra Ballentine

“I don’t wash my own hair, unless I’m at some kind of boot camp or on safari.”

Roberto Cavalli

“Sometimes women without taste wear our dresses in a vulgar way.“

The only quote on here I can get behind is Megan Fox’s quote. Is it really that nD? I don’t think so…..i think she’s right. Being a celeb involves tabloids where they can say whatever they want: she isn’t that pretty, she has a terrible body, terrible actress, they speculate about her family and can say really hurtful things. Then anonymous people can get on the site and comment and bash her even more. That would definitely wear on you. And Miley shut up you did not “start from the bottom” just no.

That bad. Is it really that bad?

Just about to post that. Also, even Gywneth is not the Worst for once?
I mean, she’s just stating the obvious. She does like nice things and is rich enough to afford them, and that’s a lot better than her thinking that everyone has the access to her lifestyle.
She like pretty things and a nice life, and she’s acknowledging that.

You know, you are totally right. I spent so long down a Gwyneth Paltrow quote-hole that I lost all ability to parse them individually. They’re all just so out of touch, especially en masse. But you’re right, there were way better ones. Mind-boggling ones. Like the ones where she talks about how much smarter Europeans are. One of those is totally more deserving.

Yeah, if she was talking about how she didn’t understand why us peasants lived in ugly houses, then I’d get it. But this is not her worst by far. My favorite is about how she’d “rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a ‘tin’” (so euro)!
I find her our of touch but HILARIOUS. I quote that all the time.

Omg, that one is amazing. “I’d rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a tin.” Now I want some tin cheese.

While I agree with her that getting made fun of on the Internet is terrible and certainly unpleasant, her full quote (which i clipped for brevity but in retrospect I should have let stand because it’s not like I’m going to run out of room on the Internet) started as a complaint about the idea that famous people shouldn’t feel persecuted because they have millions and Bentleys. I get that she would feel that way, but I do think the millions and the Bentleys and the managers and magazine covers change things. I’m sure getting called a bad actress on the internet sucks, but she’s not a lonely high school girl getting bullied by her peers, and i think the comparison is painfully tone-deaf. She’s a ridiculously wealthy movie star, and some people she doesn’t know are mocking her on the Internet. That probably doesn’t feel great, but she’s still got it pretty good.

I definitely see how it sounds a lot more tone deaf when you see the full quote but I’m personally still kind of inclined to give her this one.

Yeah, and being right next to Kanye like that certainly makes a person seem down to earth by comparison.

I don’t see what’s so bad with Gywneth’s quotes. She’s a beautifully refined woman with class and an appreciation for the finer things, there’s nothing wrong with that. We could all learn a few things form her. I love her.
