This couple officially wins the 2013 holidays, because not only does their “season’s greetings” card not include a stupid newsletter detailing how stoked they are to be taking joint ski lessons this year, it also is incredibly creative!
The photo was posted on Reddit by user byfuryattheheart, along with the caption, ”My girlfriend celebrates Hanukkah. I celebrate Christmas. Here is our holiday card.” The most up-voted comment: “The dog celebrates Kwanza, but no one accommodates him.” He/she has a point, guys.
When asked why his setup is so f’ing professional for a holiday card–whereas the rest of us wind up settling for filtered pics of our pie on Instagram with the tag #seasonseatings–the boyfriend explained:
“The gf and I both work in the photo world and met studying photojournalism. I work at the studio that we shot it in. One of the perks of working there is studio time and access to some great photo gear. We shot it ourselves with the help of some great friends. It was a long Sunday, but totally worth it!”
I admittedly am particularly drawn to this card because, as I will detail later today, I am currently dating somebody who does not celebrate Christmas because he’s Orthodox Jewish…and he is coming this Thursday to spend the holidays with my family, who do. Granted, we are not religious by any means, but I have been having a confusing time planning out our week in the most sensitive way possible (I am a people-pleaser and I just want him to feel comfortable but also included, which is a tough balance).
Basically, I love this card. I wish I were their friend; putting holiday cards on my fridge from rad people I know is the best, and this couple has got the whole “equally awesome” thing down pat.
