10 DIY Deep Conditioning Treatments For Your Dry, Wintry Hair

dry winter hairWinter is here, and it’s the worst. My lips are cracking, my nails are breaking, and my hair is a dry tangle-ball of sadness. I’m doing my best to drink a ton of water and slap lotion onto my entire body at regular 20 minute intervals, but that’s proving difficult with a job that doesn’t allow me to get naked three times an hour.

Of all the dryness I’m working with, my hair is truly the biggest issue. Not wanting to spend a lot of money on fancy spa treatments or products, I rounded up 10 DIY deep conditioning and hydrating treatments that you can make with the ingredients you already have in your fridge. Glossy, shiny hair is just steps away with these homemade hair treatments.

1. Yo Yogurt! Yogurt Homemade Hair Mask

The beauty of yogurt as a base is that it moisturizers without making your hair oily.

2. DIY Deep Conditioning Mask

Look, mayonnaise is really gross, but it’s amazing for your hair.

3. Coconut and Olive Oils

This one is exceptionally easy, but stay away if you tend towards super oily hair, even in the dry months.

4. Super Hydrating Hair Mask

This one is by far the most involved and requires the most ingredients, but will work wonders if your hair is literally cracking off.

5. Homemade Deep Repair Conditioner

Easy, peasy. You can make it without a blender if need be.

6. Banana, Honey, Coconut Oil Hair Mask

7. Homemade Scalp Treatment

It’s easy to remember to slather your hair with treatments, but don’t forget your scalp! Even if you’re not prone to dandruff, winter can wreak absolute havoc on your head skin.

8. Egg Yolk Treatment

I’ve done this without the essential oils and it was just fine. It made my hair Kate Middleton-level of shiny.

9. Coconut Oil Moisture Treatment

10. Frizz serum

Yup, that's me.

Yup, that’s me.

Something about the winter chill makes my hair blow up in a static furball. Frizz serum gets the job done but can be SO expensive. Make your own, instead!

Tips from Alaska: always have a tea kettle or pot of water boiling to keep moisture in the air, skip showers (when living in the lower 48 I showered every day, not any more), and tea tree oil.
