Duck Dynasty‘s Sadly Ignorant Phil Robertson Has Beyond Creepy Marriage Advice

Chicago White Sox v Detroit TigersIt should surprise exactly no one that new bizarre, upsetting comments made by Duck Dynasty‘s Phil Robertson have surfaced in the wake of his homophobic, racist remarks in a GQ interview this month. This time, it’s Robertson’s thoughts on marriage and dating that have people hoping he’ll go back to the swamp where he came from.

Footage from a 2009 Christian retreat in Georgia has surfaced, and it shows The Voice Of Six Generations Ago advising men to marry “good, Christian girls”–girls being the operative word.

Make sure that she can cook a meal. You need to eat some meals that she cooks, check that out. Make sure she carries her Bible. That’ll save you a lot of trouble down the road. They got to where they’re getting hard to find, mainly because these boys are waiting ‘til they get to be about 20 years old before they marry ‘em. Look, you wait ‘til they get to be 20 years old the only picking that’s going to take place is your pocket. You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They’ll pick your ducks.

Okay so some of this is getting lost in translation here, but apparently Phil Robertson’s dream girl is someone’s kid sister. The Huffington Post points out that Robertson married his wife when she was just 16, which is legal in Louisiana but requires parental consent.

In case you haven’t been following the larger story, Robertson was quoted likening homosexuality to beastiality, and clearly had some sort of stroke when talking about how black people have apparently never been the recipient of poor treatment in this country:

I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field …. They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word! … Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.

At first, A&E suspended Robertson after the interview came out, but then seemed to have misplaced its integrity when the country’s loudest and least informed rallied behind Robertson. Duck Dynasty is coming back, Robertson and all. Idiots the world over are calling it a victory for free speech. It’s definitely a victory for people who don’t know what free speech means.

It’s easy to write him off as a backwoods ignorant dumbass, and it’s not surprising that his ideal woman cooks, cleans, and maybe hasn’t started menstruating yet. I think this guy’s a lunatic, but I also know he’s a product of his culture and received exactly none of the privileged education that informs my liberal world-view. The fault here, in my opinion, lies with A&E. Sure, this ignorant guy is allowed to say whatever he wants. But A&E doesn’t have to give him a platform, and is more than allowed to impose standards for their programming. The fault also lies with educated public figures who rallied around Robertson (Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal, for one), because in their blind fury to defend Robertson’s first amendment rights, they completely misinterpreted what the first amendment means, and instead just defended this guy’s sad, hateful world view.

It’s upsetting and vile but not shocking that Phil Robertson advised men to marry 15-year-old girls. I’m not arguing with his right to say so. This isn’t the last disgusting crap we’ll hear from Robertson–I give it a week before something even more horrifying comes out, because this is what happens with no education and a completely insular world full of hatred. I bet Robertson has some really interesting thoughts on The Holocaust.

You know, I’d say this idiot was digging the hole deeper, but people who support him aren’t going to stop supporting him, no matter what sort of trash comes out of his mouth. Yay, American :( http://thehaircarepro.com/

Lemmings follow right over the cliff. Palin is right behind him……….By the way what happened to her daughter, the reality star that just……………….disappeared!

So, I had no idea who this guy was until all the mess came out about his interview. I’m honestly not even sure why I clicked on this article. I’d heard of Duck Dynasty and seen his family on the CMAs (couldn’t figure out why). The fact is, people have their own opinions, and we can all disagree with them. I still believe we have WAY bigger issues going on in this country and the world that what this one particular man is saying or said 5 years ago. Do I agree with him? Absolutely not. I will defend one part of what he said. You quoted him, so here goes. He only stated what HE SAW in regards to black people and their treatment. What HE witnessed himself. As far as your quote, he didn’t say it never happened, just that he didn’t see it. Those are two entirely different statements. Okay, done.

    • Kay_Sue

I could go with that if it weren’t for that last line: “Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

In that statement, he draws an implicit link between welfare/entitlement and African American attitudes. He makes a connection that, before welfare, they were all happy, with no disclaimer that this is only applicable to the experiences he described. And also regardless, apparently, of the fact that the initial entitlement programs were already in place–they just weren’t available to African American citizens, but to veterans of the Civil War.

Racism isn’t always blatant. Many times it’s found in the trivialization of what people go through. It’s taking for granted that, because they were singing, they were happy with their lot in life. It’s the failure to look at a bigger picture and how people fit into it. I’ve lived in the South my entire life, and I can assure you, this is the most rampant form of racism we face. Sure, you get the folks going off and throwing around racial slurs. Sure you get folks that quite honestly are proponents of shipping all minorities back to wherever they supposedly originated from. But the most insipid form are the people that say, “No one was unhappy before the sixties. No one was upset. I never saw any of them angry. I never saw anyone wanting change.” Those comments are the worst because they don’t take into account the fact that, before the brave leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, a lot of these people didn’t see a way out–so of course they weren’t agitating for change. They were accepting their lot and trying to move forward. That is not the same as being happy about it.

    • Alicia Kiner

That’s a really good point. I wasn’t trying to defend all of what he said. Just that one specific part. The entitlement part was ignorant at best. Which I didn’t say. Also, I admittedly have a very limited knowledge of what life was like in the 60s in the South. Just because he didn’t see something, doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. In fact, if he was a child ( I don’t even know how old this man is), there’s a good chance he wouldn’t have understood it if he DID see it. I guess I was giving him the benefit of the doubt in thinking that maybe he wasn’t a totally ass.

    • Rene H. Provencher

I love smart people, and you are one of them Kay!

    • liberals are all suicidal

Such incredulous lack of knowledge and education complete lies ignorance biased hate typical of how liberal suicidal Hollywood and the media rat minions have brainwashed the population.
America was founded and created in the South by Spanish European christian Columbus over 500 yrs ago and all its founding documents written by southerners notwithstanding southerner George Washington who defeated the Brits and 1st president is named the Father of Our Nation. The capital of America is named for a southerner. Robert E Lee and Jefferson Davis were top US Military Academy graduates and led America to victory in the Mex-Am War in 1849 where 50k American troops died.

Thomas Jefferson who became 3rd president, wrote the Declaration of Independence and James Madison who became 4th president authored the United States Constitution. Both were southerners and owned slaves as did Washington.
The District of Columbia is named for Christ Columbus the European Italian who was working for the K&Q of Spain when he bravely sailed west with his 3 ships to found the western hemisphere populated with 100 million savage barbaric pagans who practiced human sacrifice cannibalism and bestiality who had crossed the Bering Strait from Asia 1000 yrs earlier and set up shop.
They were all defeated in short order with divine intervention by the christian Spanish Conquistadors and later the English and French. .
Tribal chiefs in Africa had been in the slave business for 1000s of years and still are. today.

Today because of Columbus the entire western hemisphere has been christianized and all of Europe and half of Africa along with parts of Asia who is the last great challenge and the home of the enemy muslim pagans and their satanic verses as named by ex-muslim now christian Iranian Salmon Rushdie who lives in England in hiding from Aaatollah Khomeni death sentence.

    • Kay_Sue

I think someone should take their meds, if we’re being honest here.

    • Rene H. Provencher

Yes he was a slave at one time? People sing to make the boredom go away! I didn’t know a darn thing about him until he preached marrying tweens is A-OK! I guess I should watch TV? There is a reason why people buy and watch these things! What a waste of life!

  • EX

It drives me nuts when people think that freedom of speech means you can say whatever you want without consequences. I think I’m going to go off on a rant to the next client who walks in the door and when my boss tries to fire me yell “free speech, man!” I’ll let you know how it works out…

    • Kay_Sue

I have to admit, I have been kind of shocked by how many of my conservative friends suddenly seem to have an issue with Right to Work principles with regards to this debacle…

  • Jlh

While what he has said was controversial and wrong, it is not a factor of being uneducated. Phil graduated with a Bachelors degree in physical education and a masters degree in education. By assuming he’s uneducated is an insult to those who haven’t been educated. Educated people can be just as judgmental as those who are uneducated.

    • Jlh

Btw the picture above isn’t Phil, it’s his brother Si.it seems as though there was little to no research for this article.

    • Rene H. Provencher

Wow, that makes a huge difference. Tell Palin to read the article then before she says it’s ok to be a pedophile to young girls! She backs him 100% and never read anything about him.

    • Alicia Kiner

But, there’s more than one way to be ignorant; it’s not simply to be uneducated.

    • Jlh

I never said there was. The writer is the one who said, ” this is what happens with no education,” along with “I also know he’s a product of his culture and received exactly none of the privileged education that informs my liberal world-view.”

All I said was educated people can be just as judgmental as ‘uneducated,’only difference is it’s easier to attack ‘uneducated’ people

    • Alicia Kiner

I apologize, I apparently missed that in the article. But, him being called ignorant clearly stuck with me.

    • moochers

complete ignorance probably due to either a lack of or inferior education or reading comprehension or possibly a genetic problem that would excuse such low IQ babble.

    • Rene H. Provencher

Ignorant people can and are very well educated. Also pretty damn stupid!

    • moochers

That leaves no room for error. Conservatives see the exact opposite.
This is why sooner than later wealthy conservative capitalist 1st world Red states and poor liberal socialist 3rd world Blue states will split 25/25 and split all assets/debt and finally end this unholy terribly bad marriage of irreconcilable differences becoming 2 separate nations as it should be.

Romney was correct that 47% of the nation, all liberals, get government assistance and pay no federal or state income taxes.
Redraw all state lines entirely to reflect the 2 new separate nations.

Blue state liberals can have all the illegals they want and keep your socialist muslim president Obama for life plus legalize same sex marriage, bestiality, homosexuality, pedophilia, cannibalism, human sacrifice etc.

Way past time to split this bad marriage and make both nations happy. Red states will although not be loaning any trillions to Blue states or providing any monetary assistance once all your money is spent and you slip into abject poverty. We will build a circular 360 degree fence and wall to keep out any and all poor liberal scum pervs and beggars.

      .

    • John Wilson

There is nothing wrong with what Phil said. If you listen to some of the several YouTube clips where Phil is discussing various things, you will often hear the same comment. What everyone seems to be missing is the beginning of the comment that goes something like this: “There’s a saying in the south (or maybe ‘around these parts’) that if you marry them when they’re 16 they’ll pick…”. So, obviously, Phil isn’t the only person to ever utter that local adage.

  • Lalala

Not necessarily defending this guy, because honestly I could not care less about him or his reality show…but the talk he was giving was to teen boys. He married his wife when she was 16 and he was 17, so it’s not like he’s advocating 30 year old dudes marry 15 year old girls. He seems to be advocating early marriage, for both sexes. I realize he’s the guy to hate this month so we’re all digging around for more reasons to vilify him, but if you really find him so odious…how about stop giving him free press?

    • Benita

Unless there’s more to the speech that hasn’t been publicized, I don’t see him saying the same thing about teenage boys. He only says that teenage girls should be married at 16, he says nothing that indicates that he thinks the same thing is applicable to boys so the circumstances surrounding his speech are irrelevant.

    • lalala

He’s speaking to a conference OF teen boys. About teen girls. He’s advocating marrying young for both sexes, as he himself did. I know it sounds better to pretend that he’s just an evil ole pedophile man oppressing the poor little girls, but it seems more in context that he’s telling teen boys to marry teen girls young. Telling a bunch of 16 and 17 year old boys that they need to marry 15 and 16 year old girls is a totally different thing than telling 25 and 30 year olds dudes that they need to do that. The guy is doing a great job of making himself look laughable without sites like this going for the extra drama by pretending he’s doing something that he’s not. Like mentioning that he married his wife when she was 16, while conveniently leaving out the fact that he was 17, for instance.

    • Rene H. Provencher

Some of you have not listened to his preaching! Find it and listen to it! All of it. He is quite adamant in what he say!

    • moochers

The Creator aka G-D, does not mince words either does he? I am not mocked or vengeance is mine ring a bell?
All humans were cursed when the first 2 humans on earth 6000 years ago disobeyed with the Serpent and 1500 yrs later according to the ancient jew Moses in Genesis, everyone was wiped out by the great flood except the 3 sons of favored Noah named Shem, Japheth and Ham who created diversity after the single human race was destroyed for wickedness, with the 3 New World Order races in Europe, Asia and Africa named the white causasoid, red-yellow mongoloid and black negroid races by anthropologists.
Who said G-D was not diverse? He created diversity with a 50/50 gender split for self containment procreation male and female.

According to the Book the chosen blessed inspired small ancient sect Israelite of the chosen blessed Shem race who kept the Word and wrote the Torah and New Testament canonized by Rome Emperor Constantine in AD 321 to convert the empire and planet to this only divine complete universal truth, Christians or Xians are required to spread the Word to the 4 corners of the earth and proselytize everyone. Where much is given much is expected. The Shem race that includes Euros, jews and arabs.

Today Xianity is the largest on earth with a full 1/3 of the 7 billion population or 2.333 billion believers. The next biggest is of course the terrorist satanic verses of pagan Islam with their false prophet Mohammed.

We are now cognizant who the real enemy is and it is this evil pagan Islamic lie from hell who worship their father satan. Armageddon is fast approaching and the enemies of the Creator Jehovah will be defeated eternally according the inspired ancient jews. Islam is a terrorist evil religion from hell and will be eliminated in the end and their master Lucifer sent to eternal damnation according to Revelation.

Dont shoot the messenger. This is all written in stone but no one is forced to believe it as it is free choice but clearly it is written than if G-D be for me who can be against me. Get on the winning side of the Creator unless you are a glutton for punishment and desire to be on the dark empty death losing side of the Evil One.

At least that is what is written believe it on not. Islam the evil pagan lie is on the way out soon.

      Phil your pal

    • Kay_Sue

Actually, he was 19 or 20 when they married. He was born in 46, her in 50. It would be impossible for him to be 17.

  • anya

Hate to point this out, but it’s a little ridiculous. The first picture that accompanied this post was not a picture of Phil Robertson, so the author changed it when someone pointed it out. Phil Robertson is not in the second picture either! this is really sloppy work, it’s not that hard to get an accurate picture

  • moochers

The only sadly ignorant one is Julia Sonenshein whoever she is, obviously some liberal idiot retard lesbian who probably watches the comedy on such trash shows as SNL or all the other filth.
Robertson was being humorous and his advice would never be taken seriously since the decision is the the ones involved. Total nothing of an issue here and the loser parasites are trying to retaliate against A&E because they LOST !!! Ha Ha …

    • Rene H. Provencher

Hey an idiot has joined in to spew his hate and wise wisdom! Bet you work at a Bank?

    • bmouland373

Julia should join the pink pantie pooing party at GLAAD

  • liberal bacteria

Phil is a rural tongue and cheek type likable personable guy who clearly mixes his truth messages using his own brand of parodist communication something most cold black heart pretentious out of touch urbanized robots such as this creepy ignorant female writer. But this is why Phil and company are the highest rated cable tv show ever and just bumped their audience by three fold.
The writer and her liberal ilk couldn’t entice 20 viewers with this urbane corpse mentality with a personality akin to a cold lifeless feeble uninteresting dead fish..

How do disgusting bigots like Julia Sohenshein get to write “articles”.

    • bmouland373

Get hired by other disgusting bigots

  • Steve

It’s funny actually. Not to be taken seriously. I would add that she should be able to do competent yard work and keep the fridge and windows clean.

And Julia… exactly how many blogs have you done castigating males who impregnate 12-17 year old girls WITHOUT marrying them?

    • moochers

Its not nice to poke fun at pathetic liberals. Poor liberal Julia who wrote this crap suffers from the collective liberal psychotic sociopath brain decay and is a very insecure lonely individual lacking friendship or a life. It is tragic that liberals commit 99% of all violent crime and should not be allowed to possess firearms.

In addition studies have proven that liberals commit most suicides and also are proven to be serial killers and pedophiles being their gods having a supreme being in their existence. San Francisco had to erect fences to keep the homosexuals and lesbian atheists from jumping off the Golden Gate in mass numbers ending their painful wretched existence notwithstanding it was costing the financially strapped city tens of millions to retrieve the dead bodies.

Throughout history studies prove homosexual/pedophile liberals are mass serial killers and a threat endangerment to society. Just recently we have witnessed liberal serial killers in action with Tucson, Aurora, Newtown, and the DC Naval Facility.

I don’t necessarily want my daughters to marry that young but my parents who are Phil’s age married at18. They are still together – seems like a manufactured controversy.

No one seems to care much that he advocates marriage and family – just what they can twist it into

  • Chris0555555

The reason Phil believes this is because he has this delusion that he can “train” a woman who is 16 as opposed to 20. He is just as delusional as he is about everything else. He never explains why a that 16 year old doesn’t ever “get smart” and realize she can take half your money and be without you.

  • Johnny

I guess if you don’t like what someone says, they’re ignorant. Wow we live in a country with a lot of ignorant people.

  • bmouland373

Did any of these progressive crackerjack journalists hear the laughter in the background he was joking.

  • John Wilson

Perhaps little miss Julia should find out how old Phil was when he married Kay. The fact is; they were schoolmates when they met. He was 17 (Maybe 18) when he married Kay when she was 16. Ignorant people are those who prefer to not get all the facts regarding an issue. Therefore, all those who jump to the conclusion that Phil is a pedophile or that he is advocating pedophilia are extremely ignorant.

    • Kay_Sue

I really do wonder why people can’t get this right.

Phil was born in 1946. Kay was born in 1950. How, exactly, does that make him 17 (or 18) when they married?

For the record, I don’t think that’s a huge difference, as it’s the same difference between my husband and myself. My point is: this is the third or fourth post that has inaccurately stated their ages to justify a younger marriage that doesn’t need to be justified–it was a product of their times, and one that most of society has outgrown in the fifty years since.

    • John Wilson

I stand corrected. There is a 4 year difference in their age.
You are right that their marriage was a product of their times Also a product of their times is marriages that lasts. A product of more modern times is Test Drive marriages, Lease marriages, Daily Rental marriages, etc. So, if marrying younger can instill more of a commitment to ones own spouse, then why would it be a bad thing today? Marrying later in life almost always means getting a used or previously rental spouse.

  • Scatopragmatological

Gosh, I just don’t care about him or what he has to say. Zzzzzzzzzzzz.
