Welcome to the 71st Golden Globes, where backless dresses and the same old Old-Hollywood-Glamour-Made-New styles reign each and every year. However, there were some people who stood out beautifully on the red carpet, and we’re here to salute them.
Just as with all award shows, the Golden Globes had some definite frontrunners in fashion who have already been established as beloved red carpet fixtures. For the 2014 Golden Globes, though, there were also plenty of unexpectedly wonderful looks. Let’s check ‘em out, shall we?
While I wish the golden branches on Julianna Margulies‘ dress by Andrew Gn were more gradual up the gown, I still love it.
I initially hated Lily Rabe‘s over-the-top gown, but now I kind of love it. It’s raining sparkles and that, for some reason, is wonderful to me.
Ariel Winter is so much better at dressing herself at 15 than I was. I’m not certain I’d be quite as keen on this Mikael D otherwise, but seriously, it’s a gorgeous color and her makeup is impeccable. Atta girl.
Chris Hemsworth looks pretty rad!
Olivia Wilde is killing. it. in. this Gucci dress. Wow.
Naomi Watts and her amazingly grumpy photobomber win the night.
Not gonna lie, I know this is odd, but holy crap–the Monique Lhuillier gown Drew Barrymore is amazing and I’m digging her bright red Roger Vivier Epine Pumps, too. It looks like a valentine I would make in the fifth grade but something about that is great.
If looks could really kill, then Cate Blanchett‘s profession would be staring. Yes, middle school Sam is narrating this red carpet rundown. And this Armani look is hot.
Caitlin Fitzgerald looked gorgeous and I actually loved her dress, hair and makeup, but those ribbon candy shoes are real weird.
I’m really digging Taylor Schilling‘s dress from Thakoon. It feels like lingerie for people who really dig St. Patrick’s Day. She also picked a Swarovski crystal ‘Kiosque’ clutch and Stuart Weitzman which accented everything really nicely.
There were some surprisingly amazing ones, too, like Lena Dunham and Kaley Cuoco, as well as ones we already knew would be perfect…
