Grab A Comforter And Join The Hilarious Meme Inspired By Jennifer Lawrence’s Awful Golden Globes Dress

jennifer lawrence golden globes photobombJennifer Lawrence‘s Christian Dior nightmare from last night’s Golden Globes has already made our worst dressed list, considering it was an ill-fitting sack awkwardly tied atop and beneath her butt with black ribbon. Not only has the dress been compared to the number The Little Mermaid‘s Ariel wears when she emerges from the ocean as a human for the first time, but it’s also inspired a hilarious trend around internet that’s being called “#Lawrencing.”

71st Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

The main thrust of #Lawrencing involves recreating Lawrence’s dress with materials that you have on hand–in most cases, it’s a comforter and some ribbon. It’s perhaps my favorite post-award show meme, and even some pets have gotten involved. Let’s take a look at some of the funniest dress creations.

This Lana Del Rey fangirl:

Arrow’s Colton Hayes: This guy nailed the pose:

This is just adorable:

The comforter-to-ribbon ratio seems really accurate here.

The dudes represented here are really committing to the poses.

And finally, The Little Mermaid.

I honestly and genuinely like Jennifer Lawrence’s dress. Shows how much I know about fashion?

I really like it too! Glad it wasn’t just me! x

I’m sure there’s a contingent of people who like it, too! I’m glad to see some representation since we’ve been shitting on it so much haha.

I think it looks great in the photo Scoopla used- it seems there’s a fit issue on the lower band at the right hip. All I can think of is how odd it must have felt. Just… weird.

Me too. It is bit awkward (and probably feels weird to wear) but really, no hate for it.

Jennifer probably thinks this hilarious… though I’m sure whoever designed the dress feels differently.

the little mermaid and the cats hahahahah #lawrencing?

Talk about cyber-bullying?….omg leave the dress alone! She’s covered and that says a lot more than those who hang it out there. People can be so low and such hypocrites…I’m sure most who have posted these pictures/commented negatively would be first to say they stand for StoptheBullying… or maybe they wouldn’t…Joan Rivers and her show is a contributor and bully supporter who needs to take a long look in her own mirror. Isn’t there something better to do? think about? share? care about? be? What causes people to pick on others? Oh, I remember now…it is their own sense of inadequacy.

If it makes you feel better, out of all the celebrities in the world, I think she’s most likely to find the above pictures funny.

And I personally like the dress, but I also just like Jennifer Lawrence, so everything she does is tempered with “aw! she’s so cute and pretty and sassy!” so I may be biased. Because that would be my reaction if she hit me with her car, and I usually don’t get that way about celebrities.

hating on people for wearing skimpy clothes =/= any cooler than picking on people for wearing odd but non-skimpy clothes. I also feel a little put off by the phenomenon and like the prior commenters hope that Lawrence finds it funny and a joke on the dress rather than a comment on her.

I liked it overall, but that middle section does seem really awkward and puffy. If that tiny piece were a little smoother I think the whole thing would have worked a lot better.
