Drew Barrymore & Ellen Have World’s First Bearable Talk About Pregnancy Weight Gain

Leave it to Ellen DeGeneres and Drew Barrymore to accomplish the impossible and make the pregnancy weight conversation not only bearable, but pretty damn cute. The actress went on Ellen yesterday to discuss life in the second trimester. And noodles.

“I mean, I just eat everything I want, which isn’t healthy,” says Drew, who just made our best dressed list for her Monique Lhuillier gown at the Golden Globes. “I’m bigger this time than my first time, and my doctor the other day was like, ‘Yeah, so I think maybe pull back a little bit.’ I was like, really? I thought I was doing great! I still fit into those jeans. I mean, they hurt when I wear them, but I’m still in them!”

Uh, if Drew Barrymore needs to pull back, I need a full-on potato chip intervention. She looks nothing but healthy and gorgeous, and her attitude about her weight gain is even hotter:

It takes nine months to make it, it takes nine months to unmake it. I don’t ever pose like, I’m just so fabulous and I lose it like that! I want to enjoy the pasta right now. It’s not like it’s gonna look that much different. What’s ten pounds?

I wish our culture didn’t tell celebrity women that they’re only allowed to eat whatever they want when they’re gestating life (and if you’re Kim Kardashian, even pregnancy doesn’t let you off the hook), but I’m glad Drew is brave enough to stand out as a body positive voice in a sea of bullshit. Ellen obviously gets it, too:

You deserve anything you want. You are making a human being. That is hard work. And then it’s gotta come out of you. I mean, eat whatever you want. You deserve anything.

Right on. Enjoy your Chinese takeout, Drew, and remember that you’re always free to gain or lose as much weight as you want– pregnant or not.
