6 TV Characters Whose Styles You Need To Steal This Year

I kind of have a TV problem — I watch entirely too much of it. Luckily, there’s some benefit to watching a copious amount of television, and that’s all of the fashion and style inspiration that I get from some of my favorite TV characters. I have serious envy over the wardrobe’s of the six fictional characters below, each with their own unique and personal style (which has been carefully cultivated by the show’s wardrobe department and stylists). Here are the characters whose closets I would most want to raid if given the option:

Spencer Hastings and Hanna Marin, Pretty Little Liars

Emily’s hot body is constantly covered up in sweats and Aria once wore an actual spider around her neck, so I’m skipping those two little liars and placing Spencer and Hanna on my wardrobe-lusting list. Spencer nails the preppy look without looking like her mother dressed her for the first day of kindergarden and probably always has a tailored skirt suit on hand for an impromptu job interview. She also wears a lot of plaid.  Even though she’s the only one of the liars to spend any time as an admitted patient of a mental institution, her wardrobe really makes it seem like she always has her shit together.

Hanna, on the other hand, is the girl whose clothes I would want to steal for a night out — her wardrobe is all about sparkles, low-cut tops, cut-outs, and neon colors and somehow she never looks all that tacky. (Inappropriate for the occasion, but rarely ever tacky for tacky’s sake.)

Olivia Pope, Scandal

I imagine this is how Spencer Hastings will dress when she’s all grown up and running her own consulting firm. Olivia Pope may make disastrous relationship decisions but this woman has never missed a beat in the fashion department. How a woman can drink so much red wine and never spill a drop on her perfect, perfect white wardrobe is a mystery to me.

Olivia Pope’s outerwear is basically a character in itself on Scandal.

Victoria Grayson, Revenge

Victoria Grayson is basically the Wicked Witch of the Hamptons but I would totally befriend her if it meant I got to borrow one of her amazing bodycon dresses. This woman conducts everything in a bodycon dress. Global business takeovers. Snide remarks to her husband. The slapping of her loved ones. Murders.

Yeah so she’s kind of the worst but tell me you wouldn’t just dieeeee over access to her closet. Like this grey/lace number below. Unconventional but so pretty. Perfect for an ice queen like Victoria.

Misty Day, American Horror Story: Coven

Misty Day may be a swamp queen, but let’s face it: she totally gets her clothes at Urban Outfitters and Free People. Not a lot of people can commit full-time to the boho chic look, and Misty makes it look completely effortless.

(Young) Carrie Bradshaw, The Carrie Diaries

It’s now been a two whole weeks since I started binge-watching this show and I totally endorse everything about this adorable teen drama. Carrie Bradshaw is way cooler at 17 than she ever was at 30-something. She goes to Bret Easton Ellis’ parties! She hangs out with sexy playwrights! She interns under Andy Warhol at Interview Magazine! It’s such great 80s’ fun and I’m kind of obsessed with it. Plus, ALL OF CARRIE’S CLOTHES.

While Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie often wore things that were pretty out there (things that I would never be caught dead in, basically) I think I would wear every single one of baby Bradshaw’s brightly colored frocks and patterned sweaters. What can I say — I like colors. And animal print. And colored animal print.

Yes, I suffer from the same problem…weird? haha EVERYONE ON REVENGE!!!! total wardrobe envy

    • Kaitlin Reilly

Emily also looks amazing on the show, but I gotta say I’m kind of obsessed with Victoria’s dresses. If I were a guy I’d totally want to dress like Nolan hahaha.

    • Lindsey Conklin

Victoria’s dresses are amazing. and obvi Em’s. BUT I LOVED ashleys!

    • Mandie

Ashley is the worst character with the best clothes, IMO.

Haha I totally guide my husband to Nolan type clothes all the time. He mostly doesn’t care and let’s me dress him like a Ken doll but every once in a while he deems it to out of control and puts his foot down.

Yes, everyone on Revenge has the best wardrobe. I want to wear everyone’s clothes on that show. And I don’t even care that adult Carrie wore some crazy things, I still want her wardrobe especially her shoes.

I should make it clear that I would TOTALLY wear most of older Carrie’s wardrobe as well but there were definitely some outfits that I was like, “why?”. But I blame that on the time period… not SJP or Carrie.

Agreed, Lindsey– I would love to steal all the clothes out of Emily Van Camp’s dressing room! And pull them off like she does :)

I love the Carrie Diaries! It’s such an underrated show with great writing, a wonderful cast, and of course, fabulous fashion. I love all of the little hints at her future self/life. Annasophia Robb is great at playing Carrie, but Lindsey Gort is a SPOT ON Samantha.

Could not agree more. I love younger Carrie as a new character (she doesn’t really feel very SJP’s Carrie-like to me but that’s okay!) and I think that the younger Samantha is just perfect.
