While our bodies might be wearing fleece-lined jeans in the middle of a polar vortex, our hearts are in Paris for the Haute Couture shows. The couture shows showcase the best dressmaking in the world, and while most of these dresses cost more than some condos, we can still dream.
At Stéphane Rolland last night, the couture designer sent out a string of futuristic looks in back, white, and bright gold that make us feel the inherent unfairness in the fact that none of us will ever have an occasion to wear anything this crazy. The sculptural organza works of art even did something we did not think was possible: They made us like peplums. Rolland sent a few gowns and jumpsuits down the runway with asymmetrical hip flounces so dramatic and bold we don’t even want to call them peplums.
Someone please deliver the above ensemble to Lupita Nyong’o immediately.
