First dates can be scary. While tenth dates are all about which Chinese takeout place you should order in from and whether you should rent Ted or World War Z, first dates take considerably more planning. Where do you eat? Who pays? Should you kiss at the end of the night? All of these questions get all the more intense when you’re dating someone of the undead variety. Vampires are sohotrightnow, take for instance Vampire Academy. It comes out February 7th, has a pretty sweet up-and-coming cast. But dating a vampire comes with many challenges. You know to avoid Italian restaurants (the garlic will wreak havoc on your breath and may also kill your date), sunny walks in the park, and scenic tours of nearby churches, but there’s still one thing that you may not have figured out — what, exactly, do you wear on your first date with a vampire? Here are some ideas that we have about that.
Throw On Some Shades
Vampires aren’t really great with light, and if you’re planning on starting your date before the cover of darkness sets in, there’s no doubt that your date will be sporting a pair of sunglasses. Make your date feel comfortable by throwing on a stylish pair of your own, just like Katy Perry clearly did when John Mayer insisted that they wear sunglasses indoors for added mystery.
We recommend these cute Ray Ban sunnies. The shape (which is flattering on most face shapes) and white and gold outline will definitely make you standout.
One Word: TurtleneckÂ
If your date is anything like me, the time between an early lunch and a late dinner can leave you famished and ready to devour the first breadbasket they see. Unfortunately, if your date happens to be a vampire, the first breadbasket they will see will be you. Avoid temptation all together by keeping your neck covered with a turtleneck. You’ll protect vital arteries and look as chic as Nicole Richie. Like Nicole, a turtleneck works perfectly with a sleek updo — no need to use your hair to hide your neck.
Go With Something Bat InspiredÂ
We love Lorde, partly because of her ability to look amazing when channeling vampire-esque fashion. If you want your date to feel comfortable, why not play homage to the creature that is so connected to their persona? Batwing tops are both dramatic and very vampiric in nature.
Go Dramatic With The MakeupÂ
Speaking of Lorde, channeling her with bold, dark makeup is the perfect idea for a date with a vampire. What would make a vampire more comfortable than dating someone who appreciates the dark side of life? Find a foundation lighter than your natural skin tone and paint your face until you look like you are completely devoid of pigment for a vampire-like complexion. Red, plum, or — if you’re daring — black lips are ideal for a first date with a vampire.
Dita Von Teese is excellent inspiration, as she was once married to a vampire.
All Black EverythingÂ
Picking out an LBD or another all-black outfit is the perfect way to dress chic without having to put in a ton of effort matching things to other things. First dates are stressful enough, so why not rock the one color that is known to be universally flattering? Vampires are universally known to be obsessed with black, so it’s the perfect solution when you’re not sure what to pick out of your closet.
Black is easy, but you can totally jazz it up depending on your personal style. Go classic but fun with a short number like Blake Lively’s:
Or unleash your inner rockstar with Blake’s former Gossip Girl co-star turned hard rock singer, Taylor Momsen.
Okay, so overall everything about this look completely terrifies me, but hey, your vampire beau might totally dig it. Just be careful not to puncture any skin with those shoes — your date still is a vampire, after all.
