Kanye West keeps telling us Kim Kardashian is the most interesting and talented woman in the world. We find that really romantic, mostly because it’s so obviously not true. The guy is wearing some giant love blinders, but even he couldn’t watch the video of Kim Kardashian’s awkward singing debut on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and think her voice is anything but awful.
For Leno’s last show, Billy Crystal brought out a small passel of celebrities to send Leno off to the tune of “So Long, Farewell,” from The Sound of Music, probably because NBC still had the costumes left over from the live show. The first verse went to Jack Black, who can not only sing but also showed up totally game to perform and did a bunch of buoyant celebratory hitch-kicks off the stage. Unfortunately, Kim Kardashian had to follow that performance, when the only person she could respectably follow was the achingly tone-deaf Kim Zolciak from The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
It’s pretty awful. Check out the video here:
To make matters worse, she wore a skin-tight, fashion-forward white pencil skirt that restricted her movement so much she appeared unable to do anything except shuffle awkwardly across the stage to sing:
“So long, farewell, last night I told my folks
now I won’t be the butt of Leno’s jokes.”
Leno might avoid mocking her for that performance, but nobody else will. Even the backup dancers appear to be cringing during her solo. Kim Kardashian’s flat, squeaky vocal fry does not sound any better in song, and this performance pretty much affirms everyone’s suspicions that Kardashian is only famous for being famous. If she does has a previously unseen talent, it’s certainly not located in her mouth.
