A new art project from Seattle-based artist Cheyenne Randall finally puts to bed the tired notion that tattoos ruin a person’s appearance.
The issue was top-of-mind today, because yesterday we fell victim to some rage-inducing clickbait in the form of an XO Jane article titled, “Unpopular Opinion: Tattoos Are Corny And Degrading.” But today we found Randall’s breathtaking photo project, “Shopped Tattoos,” and faced with his pictures few people could argue that tattoos are “degrading.”
For his project, Randall Photoshops tattoos onto celebrities to see what they would look like if they were slightly different people, and the results are amazing.
Randall says the project stems from a “slight obsession with seeing, out of pure curiosity, what some of my favorite iconic personalities would look like, perhaps if they were in a parallel universe or took another path in life.
No one can look at Audrey Hepburn in tattoos and think that tattoos are inherently corny and degrading. Even covered in heavy ink, she still looks like a damn princess.
Even real princesses get the treatment:
Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge look like a slightly prettier version of every hipster couple we know, and the result is amazing.
It’s too much to hope that Kate Middleton would ever actually dye her hair purple, but it is a shame because that color looks breathtaking on her.
River Phoenix looks so natural in his imaginary tattoos.
Winona Ryder still looks like a perfect 90s gelfling.
