The second glimpse gives us a little more insight into the basic vibes of the film, but mostly let’s us see Angelina Jolie looking an unparalleled level of gorgeous while delivering expository lines in a magnetically devious fashion. It is impossible to tear your eyes off of her. There are fairies and briar patches and whatnot, but who cares? Angelina Jolie makes the animated wicked queen from Disney’s original Sleeping Beauty(1959) look totally tame or bland.
Seriously, look at Angelina Jolie. Look at her go.
Maleficent’s horns are making me horny! Her cheek bones are giving me a boner! Her wings are fly as hell! I’m freaking out!
Usually, I’m not one to gush–even I’m surprised that I like this so much. When I first saw the trailer posted on Entertainment Weekly’s website, I was like, “I don’t want to watch because Disney is for babies and I’m a big girl,” but then I pressed play and was instantly mesmerized because a) I love magic and b) I love evil. How could I forget that there’s nothing better than the retelling of a fairy tale from the villain’s perspective? Villains are the best, especially lady-villains. In this age of pop culture anti-heros like whatshisface from Breaking Bad, I hope we see more women behaving badly in movies and on television. After all, witch monsters tend to be more compelling characters than dopey-candy-ass princesses.
