Taylor Momsen Shames The Photog Behind Her Infamous Underage Upskirt Pic

If you’re a little bit terrified of Taylor Momsen– in a good way– feel free to join the club. The 20-year-old badass recently opened up to The Daily Beast about her transformation from child star to black eyeliner enthusiast… and her journey was disturbingly rocky. She discusses one incident from her early days of fame that’ll probably make you want to puke:

Once, my tampon string was put on the internet when I was 15 because some asshole shot up my dress and it made big headlines. For a year, if you googled ‘Taylor Momsen’ the tampon photo was the first thing that came up. When that happens, you just go, I really just don’t give a fuck, and you close the computer. People are going to say what they’re going to say, and the tabloids will always spin it.

Wow. My initial reaction was to commend her for having such a powerful, you-can’t-bring-me-down attitude about the whole situation, but the more I think about it, the more I just get furious that a kid was put in that position in the first place. A 15-year-old has no obligation to be brave and keep her head high when someone is literally attempting to create child pornography with a photo of her. It would be disgusting and unacceptable if someone were purposefully taking and distributing upskirt photos of a woman, but Taylor wasn’t even a woman. She was a child.

Her interview is depressing-yet-hopeful in a number of other ways, as well. Taylor talks about her band, The Pretty Reckless, and how music has helped her reclaim her own image after being sold into modeling and acting before she was old enough to make the decision for herself. She tells the Beast,

I started modeling at 2, and then acting at 3, and then Gossip Girl when I was 12, so I wasn’t really making my own decisions. When I got to a place where I realized I was in control of my own life, and had found the right band, and everything was coming to fruition, it wasn’t even a question: I was going to quit my day job. I came to set every day with a fuckin’ guitar. But I’m very lucky that the producers were nice enough to write me out, allow me to tour, and pursue my passion, because they very easily could have told me to go fuck myself and keep me on the show.

Man, that’s rough. I’m glad she’s found some peace in her young adulthood and that she’s at a place where she can make her own decisions. Let’s hope things continue to go well for Taylor… and that we’ve seen the last of that messed-up tampon photo.

Good for her. That’s completely disgusting that any photographer would do that, let alone to an underage actress. Taylor Momsen may have a bit of an, uh, “interesting” image, but her music is really good.

I know! I couldn’t stand Jenny on Gossip Girl, but the very first time I heard “Make me wanna die” (and saw the Victoria’s Secret promos) I went nuts for Taylor

Ugh Jenny was the worst. I didn’t mind her so much in the beginning but once she got all Queen Bee crazed I couldn’t even deal with her. My friends all joke that I only like The Pretty Reckless because I have terrible taste in music (it’s sometimes true) but I really think she’d get more respect if people just listened to her music and ignored her public persona.

The whole point of her comments is to please ask us to forget about all this, and pay attention to her music, which rocks! Stop wallowing on her past… Embrace her for what she’s becoming.

Another try hard. This one tries way too hard to be cool. Cool is something you’re born with hon, stop trying to force it.

If I’m remembering the photo correctly, it was splashed everywhere and was hard to avoid on websites and magazines, she wasn’t really wearing a dress, it was more like lingerie, and her underwear were clearly visible because what she was wearing was so short and she was up on stage. Any picture taken of her would have showed the string, but I agree she shouldn’t have been humiliated by people zooming in on her private parts to focus on it, especially considering her age at the time.
