Much has been said about Divergent star Shailene Woodley‘s rising career, but very little of that has been about her fashion sense (though that is obviously not a bad thing). Don’t get me wrong–she clearly has some fun stuff going on in her wardrobe, what with those IDGAF overalls she wore at the Divergent after party a few days ago. Her hair is wonderful, her makeup is sweet, and now, she’s proving singlehandedly that evening jumpsuits are totally back and totally acceptable for fancy occasions.
At the New York City screening of Divergent hosted by Marie Claire at Hearst Tower last night, Shailene picked a pretty, sexy, fun jumpsuit by Elie Saab. The sheer-paneled jumpsuit, from the designer’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection, fit perfectly to the actress’s figure, which in my opinion is the key to pulling off a great jumpsuit without looking like it might be pajamas. To be fair, tailoring makes everything look better, but with items that can so easily go wrong and give you the world’s most evident wedgie, it’s especially important.
She paired the jumpsuit with gold Rupert Sanderson ‘Elba’ pumps–a style I would normally question given my aversion to an overload of gold, but gosh, they look great here. I think a lot of this outfit’s success comes from how little she accessorized; the earrings are simple, the hair is sleek, there isn’t any necklace or bracelet to distract the eye. Oh, and just look and how excellent her lipstick is:
I think they could have lightened up on the eyeshadow, but otherwise, this makeup look is a win.
So, while I’m still a bit bummed out that Marie Claire destroyed Shailene’s face with Photoshop for its April 2014 cover, at least the magazine’s party brought out her best look I’ve seen yet. And honestly, it’s also just great to see a young actress whose opinions are intelligent, refreshing and sometimes a little weird get celebrated all over the place.
But hey! I want to know what you guys think, because I am certainly not the be all, end all of fashion up in here, and I know a lot of folks still actively dislike jumpsuits.
