Humans Making Out With Their Dogs Is The Sweetest And The Creepiest Thing You’ll See Today

We love dogs here at The Gloss, though we don’t love them quite as much as we love cats, and we don’t think we love them nearly as much as the subjects of artist Chris Sembrot’s new dog-kissing series, which is equal parts sweet and adorable and kinda grody.

According to The Huffington Post, this could actually be healthy because demonstrations of affection increase oxytocin levels. But we still think we’ll stick to regular belly rubs. Kissing dogs is totally normal and great, but normally it does not involve tongue.

“Thoughts on a name for this fun little project?” Sembrot said when he debuted the project on Instagram.

“pass the mouthwash,” one clever person suggested.

“Man’s best friend. That’s how the saying goes,” Sembrot said on the project’s website. “And for lots of people, smooching with their Great Dane or Dachshund is just another way of expressing that love. To them, a kiss is a carefree way to share affection with the canine who loves them unconditionally.”

Well, the dogs certainly look happy, at least.

The photos are very sweet, if a little disturbing to any germophobes in the audience. But we can’t help thinking about doggie breath. Dogs are adorable, but their mouths are not exactly minty fresh.

Still, tongue-kissing your dog is not as gross as paying $100 to be spit on by Miley Cyrus, so we’re going to stay positive and just focus on how happy all these dogs look.

Suddenly we recall Janeane Garofalo’s seminal 90s film, The Truth About Cats and Dogs, where radio veterinarian Garofalo takes a call from a person concerned about dog STDs.

“Love your pets,” she said. “But don’t love your pets.”

That seems like good advice to us.
