Demi Lovato And Kathy Griffin Engage In A Middle School-Style Feud Over Twitter

Part of the reason I get so upset when gossip sites try to invent fake feuds between female celebrities is that it detracts from the pure beauty of real feuds. Like this one between Demi Lovato, Kathy Griffin, and a whole lot of pissed off 13-year-olds. Ready for this?

During a recent Twitter Q&A, someone asked Kathy to name the “biggest douche celebrity you’ve ever met.” The comedienne immediately fired back, “Probably Debbie Lovato. Plus she should calm the f down about Lady Gaga gettin barfed on.” Within seconds, Demi’s fanbase sprung into a Attack Mode and began sending Griffin a plethora of very creative and very disturbing death threats, as teen Twitter users are wont to do. Demi then sent her since-deleted comeback, “Only a ‘douche’ to people I can’t stand.”

If you’re confused, here’s a quick refresher: Lady Gaga invited a “vomit painter” to blow chunks on her chest during SXSW. Demi Lovato went on a Twitter rant about how irresponsible it was for Gaga, an eating disorder survivor, to glamorize forced vomiting. Gaga went on to shrug and be like, IDGAF, it’s art, I can do what I want. I’m able to see both sides of this particular issue, personally. I’m proud of Demi for using her fame to raise awareness for an issue that matters to her, but at the same time, sometimes vomit is just boring, normal, nonpolitical vomit. It’s definitely Demi’s prerogative to call someone out for doing something problematic, though.

Anyway, the great Kathy/Demi debate escalated quickly into exactly the kind of shitshow you’d expect, with Lovatics saying things like “#KATHY I’m going to stick you in the oven and kill you probably on broil.” Really. Demi then had to be the bigger person and put a stop to it all, writing on Twitter,

I love you guys but y’all gotta chill with sending hate towards other people. Regardless of what they say or do. … It makes me so sad to see how mean people can really be after all I’ve spoken out about anti-bullying. … I really appreciate you guys always having my back but this is going way too far.

Yeah, let’s refrain from threatening to broil people. Just a good general note.

I’m sad that people had to have their lives threatened– and get called Debbie– but I’m glad this feud was able to provide us with hours of entertainment. Keep up the good work, overly impassioned Twitter fans.

Have none of these people ever heard of Kathy Griffin and her shtick? Sigh, I’m probably just old, aren’t I? Time to go aimlessly wander til I find a TV playing Bravo.

Social media/Internet as a whole created a generation of psychopathic tweeners. The scary thing is that it is now a norm.
