The 20 Best Twitter Responses To Marie Claire Acting Like Kendall Jenner Invented Cornrows

Marie Claire awkwardly implies Kendall Jenner basically invented cornrows.

On Wednesday, Marie Claire found itself in the middle of an angry Twitter tornado after it tweeted about Kendall Jenner‘s braids. In the tweet, it painted Kendall as practically inventing cornrows in the photo above:

The link in the tweet goes to a Marie Claire piece called “The Undercut Braid,” which is all about “a modern day spin on cornrows, the undercut braid trend has celebs and runways opting for a bolder take on braids.” It’s more than a little ironic that in the entire gallery of 11 photos, only two of the celebrities featured with cornrows were black women. And the idea that Kendall took “bold braids” to a “new epic level” is absurd, considering the 18-year-old white woman did not invent cornrows.

As a result of Marie Claire‘s assertion that she did, Twitter exploded with frustration, outrage, and hilarity, including the excellent hashtag #EpicBraidLevels. Here are some of the best responses we found–20 tweets that hold some pretty amazing commentary while often being totally hilarious.

As always, the Daily Dot is spot-on.

Truth.

To its credit, Marie Claire tweeted a response later, but Twitter is still shaking its head wondering when idiocy like this will stop cropping up all over the place.

      Seriously. She won the internet.

      Yes that was classic.

As someone who wore my hair in cornrows during a majority of my childhood, I’m just here to say that this is absolutely ridiculous.

And that JT and Bo, admittedly, did it better by white people standards. Which isn’t saying much but you know…

2000s JT also somehow did red sunglasses without looking like a serial killer, so he’s just winning all over the place.

I’ve yet to see a single white person pull off ANY variation of cornrows. We just shouldn’t. We look ridiculous.

      Lol!

    • Chelsea DeLoney

Yes it’s not saying much! You’re right about that.

6th grade me with the long cornrows is sad right now. I did not sit through 8 hours of having my hair painfully braided just for it to be “discovered” in 2014. I’m sure Alicia Keys is also having a very long eyeroll at this… I guess cornrows just got Harlem Shook.

Not ignoring race or ignorance but… the overuse of the word “epic” is sooo annoying

I love it with regard to the phrase “epic fail,” but other than that, it is a horribly annoying hyperbolic term. Ugh.
