Another day, another serious accusation against famed photographer/celebrity BFF/alleged serial harasser Terry Richardson. This time, the controversy comes from British model Emma Appleton who claims Richardson offered her work in Vogue in exchange for sex.

Appleton posted a screenshot of a text supposedly sent by Terry Richardson:

Appleton tweeted the photo with a caption simply saying “Um what” (generally speaking, this is the reaction I feel towards Uncle Terry and his career 100% of the time). She then posted several tweets on the subject:

@lewisthegreat yeah, I was like whaaat and he said yes or no?

@_ChloeThomas I just said um no I’m not your girl, bye ha

This industry is fucked up

@CARLTONYAITO I’ve been modelling for 5 years and I’ve never had this before, it doesn’t make it okay

@leebeaumont that’s the worst bit about it

Beginning to wish I hadn’t posted that…it doesn’t matter who you are or the what the industry is, just be a decent human being

The fact people think this is acceptable blows my fucking mind. See ya.

It appears that Appleton has since deleted her Twitter. I wish she had actually tweeted his number so this would be more towards the realm of solidified proof (whereas one can simply change the name of a contact to “Terry Richardson” and have that person send a text). That said, I also wish this allegation wasn’t so incredibly unsurprising.

If you have been reading The Gloss for a while, you may know that one of our former contributing editors, Jamie Peck, wrote here about her awful experience with Richardson and his assistants. On top of her story, there are a remarkable number of other women who have come out publicly about how working with Richardson made them feel (spoiler alert: the end result was pretty much always horrible). Just a month ago, a woman who modeled for him at the age of 19 wrote on Reddit about how he and his assistant allegedly pressured her into partaking in sexual activities that she was not remotely comfortable with. For the record, a photographer with professional integrity should never, ever make a model feel “nervous and paralyzed.”

Shortly after the Redditor’s story came out, Richardson wrote a whiny letter about how hard it is for everybody to accuse you of sexual misconduct for years and blah blah blah. It was unconvincing then and it’s unconvincing now; I can’t imagine there ever being anything that comes out of that man’s mouth possibly capable of making us all stop disliking him.

We’re always very disappointed when celebrities choose to work with Terry Richardson, and even those photos are often unbelievably creeptastic. Even when it’s a celebrity that is a feminist and a powerful role model, it is difficult to not feel like they’re being selective with how they choose to react towards things that are bad for women. While I don’t think that this text will slow down his career–seriously, nothing any of the dozen or so accusers have said has done much–I do desperately hope it makes some magazines reconsider their hiring of him.

As for Vogue, Director of Communications Hildy Kuryk said this:

The last assignment Terry Richardson had for US Vogue appeared in the July 2010 issue and we have no plans to work with him in the future.

Hopefully “we have no plans” means “we really, really don’t want to ever associate with him again” and just “we have no plans but might eventually when you guys forget about this for a while.” We can dare to dream, right?

Ugh. So unsurprising but still horrible. Fashion mags: please, please stop hiring this guy. There are so many talented photographers in the world, there’s no reason to use this creep.

Egomaniac fashion designer Marc Jacobs supports Terry. He got him many
well-paying contracts. Jacobs is another pervert. He was the originator
behind many of Terry’s sick editorials. Read the TRUTH at http://styleangelique.blogspot.hu/2014/03/egomaniac-designer-marc-jacobs-supports.html

I genuinely hope these constant accusations popping up ruin this guy’s career. I’m not one to wish ill on anybody or their welfare but I wouldn’t object to him being blacklisted from every publication ever at this point
