Hopefully Jodie Foster’s Wedding Vows To Her Wife Were Less Awkward Than Her Coming Out Speech

Sometimes when our Twitter feeds are a tangled mess of celebrities being racist, gossip sites making shit up, and famous people bragging about their disinteresting diets, it’s hard to remember that positive, uplifting news can come out of the entertainment business. It’s always a treat to see famous couples who seem to really respect and love each other, and it’s even more exciting to see them tie the knot. We’re super pumped to hear that Jodie Foster has married her girlfriend, Alexandra Hedison!

Does this mean we can we officially give Jodie the L-label? Maybe, but until she publicly uses that word to describe herself, let’s just focus on celebrating the happy couple. After all, unless you were as champagne drunk as I was during the 2013 Golden Globes, you surely remember Jodie’s speech, which some interpreted as her official coming out. In actuality, she kind of did the opposite of coming out, choosing instead to make a statement about her right to privacy in her personal life. In Jodie’s words:

I guess I just have the sudden urge to say something that I’ve never really been able to air in public. A declaration that I’m a little nervous about, but maybe not quite as nervous as my publicist right now. Hi Jennifer! But, you know, I’m just gonna put it out there, right? Loud and proud. I’m gonna need your support on this. I am… single.

She went on to add that she already did her coming out “about a thousand years ago in the stone age,” and took some time to make fun of the expectation that she should talk about her personal life in press conferences. So that settles that, I guess!

Anyway, we sincerely hope that she and Alexandra get the privacy they deserve, and that their relationship is long, happy, and healthy. Congratulations!
